Shim goes between the slave and tranny. I got my pilot bearing out with a rented pilot bearing puller and slide hammer from Autozone, kinda had to work it back and forth to get the fingers in there, but it will work. Put thhe new one in with a socket or whatever you have that will push on the outer part of the bearing, and a hammer.
Good luck!

Fpr the piolat bearing I took a pice of 7/16 turned, gtound, polished(or any round stock will work) and took a few thousands off in the lathe. I measured it first and undercut it about 4 thousands of an inch. I then packed the piolat bearing and bore in the end of the crank with wheel bearing grease. Then I stuck the round stock in the hole and tapped it with a hammer. The grease will compress and force the bearing out.

DO NOT DO THIS!!!!
That's great that you got lucky! but, there is a plug similar to a freeze plug in the back of the crankshaft that will/can be pushed into the oilpan Do a search for pilot bearing this has happened to a few. Not worth the possible problems like having to pull your oilpan to fish the plug out, then having to replace it.

You can rent the bearing puller Autozone or Advanced. If you have a freind at a dealership, borrow there's. Hope this helps.

yeah, LS1's have a hollow crank. I only learned this when I did my clutch and did a search here.
