Default is the mm6 and t56 transmission the same transmission

I am fixing to buy a z06 clutch kit, clutch master cylinder, and clutch slave cylinder from gmpartsdirect.com but on there website it says all of these are for z06 with mm6 transmission. i have a 99 z28 with t56 transmission i was wondering if these products i am wanting to buy will fit my tranny. so if anyone can tell me if these 2 trannys are the same tranny i would highly appreciate it. thanx 99zrocket

The only differences between the T56 and the MN12 (Z06 tranny), are the gear sets. That clutch will fit your tranny.

Your Z28 is equipped with the M6 Which is a T-56. The Z06 is equipped with the M12 which is a T-56 with upgraded internals.

The internals are the same, just different gearing. Nothing is "upgraded".

Pretty sure the GTO and Zo6 M12's got steel shift forks, and maybe carbon fiber blocker rings. Have to go check

2002 T56s and up come from the factory with steel shift forks and carbon fiber rings, at least the dozen or so that I've had apart.

The 2002 f-body cars also received the steel shift forks, and carbon fiber blocker rings. And if you have had you 2001 or older model cars tranny rebuilt lately by the dealer they now install these upgraded parts. I haven't trashed mine lately but I've trashed my clutch.

Gear M6 Ratio (:1) M12 Ratio (:1)
FIRST 2.66 ---------- 2.97
SECOND 1.78 ---------- 2.07
THIRD 1.30 ---------- 1.43
FOURTH 1.00 ---------- 1.00
FIFTH 0.74 ---------- 0.84
SIXTH 0.50 ---------- 0.57
REVERSE 2.90 ---------- 3.28

Meaning, Will the Z06 Clutch fit onto the M6 that came in a 97 T/A. Still kinda learning what can be swapped out and what can't. Sorry.

The upgraded shift forks and blocker rings are nice, but I'd rather have the M6 gears instead of the M12 because of the closer ratio. The taller 1st and 2nd gears could be made up for with a steeper axle gear if you wanted to.
