Nothing like a good argument to keep the thread active.

That brings me to another question. My input shaft bearing looks like it rotated a bit in the case. Is that supposed to happen? Also, did that trash the case?

Do you mean the bearing race that fits in the front plate of the tranny? If so this race is not pressed into the case. It should be tight but not so tight that you can't get it out. The shims for the input and mainshaft fit behind this race.

Madss, that is exactly what I'm talking about. So they are just 'snug' in there, not pressed in? It looks like mine rotated a bit, does that mean I'm looking at getting new bearings?

My bearings don't look worn, but my transmission is noisy. I know it went low on trans fluid for a while, is there any way to be sure those bearings are OK?

Check for wear marks on the bearings. If they look clean then they're probably ok.

The bearings seem fine (no grinding, no flat spots, etc.). It does look like the race rotated a bit but I'm not sure that's a problem.

Has anyone done a bearing change out on the T56? The shimming procedure looks a little tricky. Where do you get the tool to do the end play measurement?

Thanks again,

Joe
