Default clutch not covered under extended warrenty??

I took my car in to the dealer today because my clutch went out and he called me back and told me that since it is a "normal wear-and-tear part" that GMPP extended warrenty does not cover it. My question is, what in a vehicle isn't a wear-and-tear part Does anyone have any experience dealing with there clutch under the extended warrenty and not the factory warrenty?

maybe this should be in the drivetrain section...i don't know

Clutches are almost never covered under warrenty, because wear and tear is directly related to how the car is driven. Mine started slipping at 17K and I still could not get it covered under warrenty.

getting your clutch done under any warranty is impossible! Just like smoking the tires for an hour would not be covered as well. If the clutch actuator was at fault like on some 3500 trucks, then you might get a warranty. Other than that, they have seen many-o-scammers try to get things done under warranty and they are now trained to find the scammer and tell him not to bother with a claim that could have been the owners fault. If you can tamper with it, it is wear and tear!

thats bull****

i agree its not extended warranty material, but unless you have solid proof the car has been abused, and the clutch fails before 36k, i think GM should pick up the bill.

The Clutch is considered a wear item and is covered for wear up to 1yr/12K miles, however, if the problem is catastrophic failure, the clutch IS covered for the duration of your Warranty/Extended Warranty

I've had two Clutch Explosions in the last 2 years and both times GMPP covered it

The first time, my clutch disc separated from the center spring hub while I was at G5 in Atlanta

GMPP replaced the complete clutch assembly (including flywheel), along with updating my Slave and Master cylinders

They even paid for 70% of my stay at the Marriot for a week!!

Second time around, the pressure plate collapsed and half of the fingers broke, causing severe damage to the clutch disc and flywheel as well as overextending the Slave cylinder

GMPP covered it yet again and my local dealer let me choose the parts that I wanted installed

Got a complete ZO6 spec clutch and lightweight flywheel, along with a new 145 slave and 277 Master

The same coverage goes for Brake pads and any other "Wear Item"

If it just wears out, then it will only be covered for the first year or 12K miles, but if the problem is breakage, it should be covered...

Take it from a guy who has had his car in for over $20,000 worth of Warranty Work (yes, 20 THOUSAND!!)

Your clutch is like your brakes. You drive fast and brake hard and your brakes will only last you 10K miles, same goes with your clutch.

thanks. The dealer wants to charge me $1320 to fix it I am just going to get a Spec clutch or something and install it.
