Default T56 Rebuild

I am looking to rebuild my T56 with the synchro rebuild kit and a 3/4 steel shift fork from DD Performance. My question is whether or not i will be able to do this myself in my garage. I have a good amount of mechanical ability, but have never done a tranny rebuild before.

1. Can i do this in my garage?
2. What special tools will i need, if any?
3. Is there anything else i need to be aware of?

I'd change the 3-4 fork , all of the syncro rings , the 1-2 shift fork pads , 5-6 shift fork pads , reverse shift fork pads , front seal , rear seal , rear bushing and check all of the sliders (de-burr if needed) . I would also check the 3-4 keys very closely or just replace them . I guess you can give it a try but just remember how you took it apart .

I was going to get the 3/4 steel shift fork and the T56 synchro rebuild kit. That includes the following, right from D&D Performance.

Steel 3-4 Shift Fork (D&D Part No. BS6, Price $49)

This is a must if your T56 has an aluminum 3-4 shift fork. The steel fork was developed for the Viper LeMans racing program and became a production part on Vipers in the late 1990's. Ford Cobra &

Cobra R models have it as well. GM switched to it in the 2001-2002 time frame. Your best bet is to check for it when you tear down your T56.

T56 Synchro Rebuild Kit (D&D Part No. BS45, Price $199) Sale !

Kit includes carbon fibre blocker rings 1st thru 6th (reverse is brass), inserts, springs, fork pads and high hat.

*Note T56 Syncro kit will not fit Corvette T56 Transmissions. Corvette snycro kits available, call for price.

Is that all that i need as far as parts.
Now what do i need for special tools, if there are any. I already know what it takes to drop the tranny and have those tools. But anything special needed for cracking the case and working on the inside of it.

You'll also need the 3/4 syncros themselves. They're not included in those kits.

Only things you will need, you will need a good 2-3 jaw puller. You will also need a press to get some of the gears back on. To get the 5/6 gear on the output shaft is kinda a challenge. I ended up using some coupler nuts in conjunction with some allthread to get down on there far enough to pull that bugger.
