Default Car wont go into gear. Need your opinion.

I got a problem a few months ago and have yet to fix it.
When i tryed to drive my car....started it, and warmed it up then was about to leave, and car wouldnt go in 1st gear...or any other..i was locked out of them....but after playing with the clutch for a minute it all of a sudden worked and i drove like 4 miles to my destination, then when trying to leave the place i drove to the same thing happened EXCEPT no matter how much i pumped the clutch and played with the gears, the only way to move the car was to start it in gear.
I checked the fluid and it was dirty/muddy looking, but full.
I got the car to the auto shop at my base and made sure the steel braided line going to the slave didnt loose its connection for some reason. And it didnt. I did however bleed the clutch and get new fluid put in it. But still, i wasnt able to get the car into any gears at all without starting it in gear.

Since then i have replaced the slave, and the car still will not go into any gear. I bleed the car from the top and bottom. I have pressure on the pedal and it feels like it normally would , but it just wont go into any gears?
Is it the Master or would it be something else??
Thanks
-Chris

Sounds like you have a bad master cylinder.

when you push the pedal in is there any increased pressure than when it was working properly?

I've been having the same problem... on my 2001 z28 m6...
fluid looks like dirty too. I looked and cant find the bleeder, where is it located...?
I followed the braided line from the master cylinder to the bell housing and didnt see anything???

when my car is in gear the clutch doesnt slip, but my clutch pedal always feels inconsistant....

Sounds to me the most likely problem is the throwout bearing is shot, but could possibly be the pressure plate is too worn. Do you hear any chatter when actually driving and shifting? When does the clutch let out? How many miles are on the clutch? Is there any vibration when shifting? Any more info would help properly diagnose the problem. Does the clutch spin under accelleration?
