soo, they put "shift lights" in the dash, and had them flash on to get the best MPG.....
fast forward a decade to the 90s..
they wised up and changed the rules a bit.. no longer was the "shift light" trick going to apply...
well, they cant MAKE you shift.. but they can force you to skip gears.. and since its not a choice on your behalf, but PCM controlled... it works.
so the sole reason for the skip shift is to improve the fuel economy numbers for the car.. that raises GMs CAFE numbers, and makes a higher MPG for the window sticker.. and that sells cars.

I thought my shifter was binding or something! this is great news... but it still sucks. I was just under the car tonight replacing an o2 sensor, could have taken the 5 mins.
is this only a factor between 1st and 2nd gear? or is that just my driving habit? I have only had my car for 2 weeks...
Thanks for the info.

Skips 1-4 on a 1-2 attempt only. If you just unplug it, it will throw a code each failed skip. If you get a 2nd solenoid ( leaving the orig in the case)and just tie-wrap it to the case side, then plug into it so it actuates but does nothing, you should be good to go. Mine has been doing this for more than 5 years.

I removed the whole solenoid and use this to plug it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/120844478949...S:3160&vxp=mtr
I used thread sealer instead of the washer it comes with and no issues at all!
