Default Clutch pedal return spring???

Does anyone have a pic for the installation of the clutch pedal return spring. I'm on my fourth one now as they keep breaking. I installed it the same way it came from the manufacturer, but I think they may have installed it backwards. I noticed it is preloaded when installed and think that may be the reason it keeps breaking??? If you have a GM manual with a pic or even a pic of how it is installed in your car it would be appreciated.

NOTE: I already checked to ensure it was not binding in any way and that there isn't excess wear in the assembly. Just not sure why it keeps breaking other than it has been installed backwards or I'm just unlucky and keep getting bad parts from GM???

You ain't the only one... those things are prone to break. No matter how you install it, it will eventually break again. The last time mine broke, I said to hell with it and left it out. Two years later, two drag seasons later, haven't noticed any difference at all, car drives fine... even on 6k clutch dumps on slicks and shifting at 6700 rpms.

leave it out or get one that is not an 01-02. i had the same problem and spoke with a gm tech(trani specialist) and he said the ones manufactured after 00' are junk and will eventualy break. i ran without one for 2.5 years no problem. try to find one in either a junker car or older set of pedals imho

Hey, thanks for all the info... Mine fortunately was under parts warranty from the GM parts departmment--they said they would replace it, but it would be tha last time. Their comment was that GM is not seeing a lot of these things breaking--mainly because no-one is reporting it to GM. These springs cost $35.00 from the dealership ($20.00 plus shipping from GM parts direct) and I informed them that I wasn't the only one who had this problem. Thus, my suggestion to you all is to report it to GM so they know it is not just a fluke, but that a lot of owners like us are having the same problem with the spring. If there's enough complaints, they will have to reevaluate the issue with the springs and either acquire a new vendor or possibly replace the broken springs under either a warranty or recall of some kind... It doesn't hurt to try and giving them any information can only help.

uh...just don't worry about it. it's a pointless part, so there is no reason to get it fixed or to complain to GM about it. that's worth way more hassle than the part is actually worth. consider it the appendix (one of them) of the car.

That spring was the biggest PITA ever. I think the headers were easier to install. I left mine out after the second one broke.

Yeah, mine broke about 2 months after buying the car (scared the **** out of me at the time, heard a loud pop and didn't know what it was!), and I never bothered to put another one in. Almost 4 years later, and I haven't missed it much.

i dealt with the annoying squeak from the broken spring for about a year and finally went in and had it fixed before my warranty expired on my 02'.
