Had my spec 3 and new AMS lightened steel flywheel installed Friday. Was going to do it myself, but got a great deal at a very respectable tranny shop I've been to a few times.

The AMS flywheel is infact the one that can be had on ebay for ~$100. I figured I'd give it a try. Previous clutch was a z06 clutch that the guys said was literally falling apart. Guess 470+ rwhp with nitrous didn't make it happy.

I bought the clutch used. Previous owner said it had 300 miles on it, it looked brand new. Initial feel of the pedal was definatly more firm than the z06 clutch. Grabs a lot better. Even though it has 300 miles on it, I'm going to give it my own 300 mile break in. Chatter isn't bad at all. Every now and then if I bog it some it will give the famous spec chatter. Very easy to deal with though.

So we'll see how everything holds together. My car rarely sees the nitrous, and when it does it won't be more than 500 rwhp. Hopefully this won't be another spec horror story.

 

Day 3 update: At idle the shifter seems to clatter a lot. Makes a lot of noise, but when the clutch is engaged, the noise goes away. That along with a constant light clutch smell (not quite burning, but noticable) make me thing something isn't right.

 

yup i had mine put in friday. ive got right at 500 miles on it now. its very grabby. i was trying to hard to not make it chatter at first, now im just slipping the clutch more to make it smooth. it is feeling better everytime i drive it. .
