Bout 500 miles should do it. Lots of city driving, basically a lot of shifting. Dont rev high, and no WOT. Thats me, some people will say take it to the track

My last spec I went with the 500 mile brake in and it worked out great, I would highly recomend going easy on it for the 400-500 miles. As i got closer to the end of it I was a little harder on it as miles incresed. It dose suck but I think this is why I have not had any problems. Have to replace now due to excessive jump in horsepower and stg II underated.

It doesn't really matter how you break in your Spec clutch.
It'll be junk sooner than you think anyway

unfortunetly this is what I was thinking too. Actually I was just gonna say to pull it back out and break in a different brand clutch. But yeah drive 500 miles city traffic no wot or hard shifting

the majority of the problems come from people not breaking it in right...i know of an exception and that is vince's spec 5 which just randomly blew up...but spec is investigating why...

Thats a joke considering we have more than 150 spec clutches on the road. Over 60 we've personally installed everyone is working fine. 3 instances of problems. 2 were SPEC 3I's which have been pulled from the shelves and were replaced for free with 3F's. One 3 X-Pad which took 38000 miles of hard abuse and spec replaced for free also.

It depends on the installation. everyone that whines about theirs chattering, etc. I would check the installer first before blaming spec. I've never had a 3 X-Pad that chattered that left my shop. Besides a very slight bit of chatter for the first 400 miles. Just vary your RPMs dont beat the crap out of it. We have put in SPEC's and ran them on the dyno right after, and these clutches are still going strong. However I would recommend a break-in period of 400-500 miles.

I bought my S3 from a ls1tech member, and the alum FW from LG Motorsports. They told me proper break in was go out and launch it easy a couple of times, then launch it hard a couple of times and let it cool, and your done!

I did that and havent had any problems yet. And the shaking of the shift lever when taking off in 1st did get a lot less after about 500 miles, now it barely does it at all.

I asked them if they had any problems with S3 clutches and they only had good things to say.

Im happy with mine it took me from an 8.7(stock slipping) to an 8.3

Most of the time on the new units we'll glaze over the PP a bit that really helps. There is also another trick that really helps but that is why I guarantee every clutch I install here not to have a problem.

When you say glaze over the pp are you referring to "scuffing up" with high grit sanding pad on a die grinder, or something else?

well i think i am just gonna let it break in for 500-600 miles, and then do a couple light launches and then let it cool down, hopefully that works

As the others said; drive easy for 500-600 miles. Try doing lots of stop and going type driving. Highway driving really doesn’t help.

My chattered a bit at first, but it smoothed out after about 1000 miles. I’ve got about 10,000 miles and lots of ¼ mile passes on it and I haven’t had any problems at all.

240M3: Not exactly. We have tried a combination of a few different things and now we have it down to a science. So much that I will warranty any SPEC 3 bought and installed at my facility no questions asked if it sucks we'll replace it!

Hey Jake, Straightline installed mione and I did the 500 mile break in. I had minimal chatter, but then we did a few 1/4 mile runs on the dyno and I gave it hell. Now it's perfect.
