Default Skip Shift - Can it prevent an accidental 3rd to 2nd shift?

Since buying a B&M ripper I've had big issues with pulling down into 2nd gera from 3rd when I've intended to hit 4th. I was wondering if it would be possible (or if there is a program out there) that engages the skip shift solenoid when shifting from 3rd to 4th? Perhaps only at high revs? This would seem to be a fantastic use of an otherwise useless feature.

Instead of using a lockout to prevent going from 3rd to 2nd, why don't you change the position of your hand on the shifter?

when going from 3rd to 4th, turn your hand out on the shifter while pulling down (with your palm facing the passenger side). Hand position should solve any issues with mis-shifting.

honestly, i would work on your shifting before you go and start spending money to try and fix it.

majority of people dont have this problem so this presents two possibilities.
A. something is wrong with your transmission/shifter
B. something is wrong with your shifting techniques.

I actually have done this. I've also changed the shifter **** to promote better shifts. As for the shifter itself, I had it installed professionally, and after the problem was first opbserved I removed it to check. It was okay so I reinstalled it. Then I phoned B&M to get tech advice. I then removed it again and ensured it was installed properly and looked okay. Since then I've never had the issue at high revs, but if I'm not concentrating, it can happen - usually only on a slower shift. Rapid shifting or power shifting seems to keep it from happening as the hand tends to "wander" less.

Ultimately it is a "driver' mod, but I'd like a backup just in case.

I currently have LS1 edit - is there anything I can do with it?

Yes the problem is human. BUT....a device to prevent an overzealous shifter in the heat of the moment could save thousands.

I never miss shifts, but when I was racing a twin-turbo 5.0 at the strip (I was the underdog) I had him at the 1/8. He started to pull. In my excited state, I grabbed 2nd at 88 mph and locked up and got all out of shape.

Luckily, no damage. But the next time, there will be. I tell myself I won't do it again, but would like some insurance.

If human error is ruled out, I'm not sure what else it could be.

I hope you get it straightened out. Post any results also.

I don't know what version it is in, but I have read that the cags is a programable function now in the PCM. You'll probably have to dig deeper into the updates, and perhaps it won't be until v2.0.

Got a Ripper and this could happen with any aftermarket shifter. They're all good, but you can't make the human fool proof.

I have never done a 3rd to 2nd shift unless it was intentional downshifting..........

good hand position and LOTS of practice are the key.......anything else is a band aid (just like a rev limiter, ABS, and traction controle).....

That's what I said.....until I did it!

Again, sometimes when you are all hyped up and people are on their feet watching you, the excitability will make you do stuff you never do

I'm not sure if some of you guys are trying to help or what the deal is. I've had the car for 5 years... I drag race, I road race and I am a great driver of the car. I replace the stock shifter with a B&M and all of a sudden it happens TWICE!

I'm looking for a free upgrade that could possibly save my engine and you guys just tell me to learn how to drive. I'll accept any feedback, but quit beating the dead horse. If you are invincible, then good on you. Take a look on this site for bent pushrods and take note of how many are from a missed 4th gear shift.

Now back to the LS1 edit. Is there a variable you can set to enable the CAGS on different criteria? Ie. speed >90MPH
