Default M6 and 2.73

I am switching to the M6 not too long from now and I won't have the funds to swap in the 4.30's immediately, so I will be driving with the 2.73 for a while........how horrible is this going to be to drive? I know somebody has done it before.

It won't be bad. You'll still be better off than an auto with those gears since you can always downshift when needed You gas mileage will be awsome too. Depending on your mods, could get as high as 20+/35+ mileage with that combo.

The 4.30's seem a bit steep, even or a manual. Hope you like driving in 6th gear a lot with those. Generally 4.11 is about as high as people with street driven cars go.

Unless you plan on going full out strip car, you might want to consider 4.10s

4.56 in 6th gear tops out about 125 mph stock hp if im not mistaken, it also takes alot more horsepower to yank those gears fast.

Your car will not be bad at all. Dont be surprised when its little sluggish accelerating from a dead stop. I recomend to stay away from the 4.30 gears even 4.11s IMO....

you'll be fine just wont ever use 6th till you get some lower gears, i would go at least 4.10's then going higher will depend on what mods you goign with. I had 4.10's in my lt1 trans am it was great now i'm back to 3.42's with my ls1 and i can defintaly tell that this engine loves gears. But i would either go 4.10's or 4.30's depending on your mods and how high you planning on shifting.

Gas mileage my ***. I got 225 miles on a full tank of gas running with my 2.73's on stock a4 tune. When i switched to 3.73's my gas mileage got much better. Yes it is nice running down the highway at 100 mph at 1500 rpms but you talk about sluggish. My clutch chattered like a wife on her anniversary. If I was on a steep hill and i was stopped, I almost had to do a 2500rpm clutch dump to get the thing moving. If you have no hills and do a ton of hwy driving then you will be fine. Those gears absolutly suck for city driving I drove with them for 3 months beleive me I know.

Good Luck with the swap it is really a breeze once the master is in anyways

doesnt look like the swap will be bad at all......thanks for the GREAT news lol......I drive through about 8 or 10 redlights on a road that has a 45mph speed limit to go to work haha......got a few hills too

BTW for performance mods the car will get a set of headers and ory and the basic bolt ons......MAYBE a stealth cam....max rpm probably 6600

I can get some Strange 4.56's probably CHEAP so I'm slightly leaning that way.....who knows.

not quite that bad, it will be like an un-matched cam with to small of gear.

but on the plus side you could probably cruise to the 200 mph club with that setup! Definitely bad *** gas mileage for sure!
