Default No smoking section.....Help! Is my clutch toasted?

let my brother drive my car this morning and of course the very first thing he decided to do was a burn-out. Except I think he gave the clutch a burn out. All I heard was RPM's and then it was like a smoke bomb let loose under the car. I thought LAPD launched a tear gas bomb at me and I live in Chicago. It seems okay gripwise...smells burned...like toast but otherwise I'm at a loss to figure what damage is done? How do I check the thing out, without a wrench or something. Should I think about a new cluch now HELP!

It got overheated from slipping it too much. Our clutches do not like heat.
Should be fine.Let it cool and dump it on the street and see if it catches.
I've burnt mine a few times on the track by slipping it too much off the line.I let it cool down and it works fine.

Our clutches can take a little abuse but not much. When it slips it glazes the clutch. Anywhere from one time to about six time can fry a clutch. It took 6 times slipping to fry my clutch. (and a few times down the 1/4) After that I never could even get my tires to chirp... the clutch would slip. If you just drive and don't try to do manley burn-outs it should be fine BUT... if you plan on going to the track or drive your car like its stolen you might want to save up to get a clutch in a year or two. There are some nice clutches out there that won't brake the bank around 3 to 5 hundred dollars. Keep an ear out if you start to hear the RPM's go up higher and your car is not going any faster then the clutch don't have very long to live. Hope this helps.

$%@#! right it was stahnkie like butt. I've launched subs that smelt like roses comaparably. I'm sure it'll work but do I gain anything by having the thing cracked for a new clutch now...or wait until it's REALLLY BBq'd. I can get a LS-1/Z06 for $300 and I'm sure I can find somebody to pop it in superstat.

You can also get the RAM setup for about the same $$ but you will want to add a Adjustable master cyl to the list.
Its up to you if you got the $ change it. If not start saving it wont be long...

I hate to get all silly and mess up my warranty on the drivetrain by putting something other than GM parts in the thing. Did I mention its a new 02 with about 1K on the odometer? I'd be happy enough to let well enough be and get it back to normal. Matter of fact I'd like to take it to the dealer and be like ?????WTF????? you guys sold me a busted car. To my experience they'd be happy to hump me on anything possible....maybe I can get a perk on the labor or something if I BITCH BITCH BITCH like WTF your porters have been doing wheelies with my new car scenerio. Besides what does an install cost(?)

I've been that route. I had the 2001 Z06 clucth pit in my 99' T/A by the dealership. Now 12K miles later, guess what? I'm buying a RAM clutch + 980 disk, McLeod adjustable master, 2001 slave and drill out mod. Don't bother with the clutch through GM.
