Default my spec 3 went out today w/ only 1000 miles.

Hey guys, well i was at the track today and my clutch gave up the ghost. The bad thing is it only has 1000 miles on it. I was doing a burnout and the car hooked and jumped foward. I pressed the clutch in and tried to get it back in first and it wouldn't go in any gear. I was pushed off the track and when i press the clutch in the pedal feels fine but when i try to crank the car while it is in gear and the pedal pressed in the car starts pulling foward and wont crank. What happened? A guy at the track thinks it is the slave but im not sure. I have had issues with it since it was put in w/ the shifting. I had to granny shift or it wouldnt go in gear.I am really thinking about going th350. these clutches **** me off. thanks guys

Sounds like you welded your clutch disk to the flywheel. I did the same thing with my spec 3 at the track, with only 6k miles and maybe 20 passes on it. Ended up snapping it loose moving the car around the driveway to position it for a new clutch install.

It's welded. I did this 4 times this year on SPEC 4Fs. I fixed it by installing a TH350. Sometimes you can break it free by rocking the car. Other times you will need to drop the trans.

Phone number is in this thread. Performance Trans did mine. Jay Billingsly sent me to them. The converter is all custom and not off the shelf. The trans is all custom as well. Give Bob a call and he can give you a price for what you will need. It will depend on your car and your goals.

Some of us want manuals. Is it acceptable that a clutch welds itself to the flywheel? Seems to me it shouldn't be. So why write off clutches?

No they should not weld. Not even once let alone 4 times. I wrote off clutches after I talked with:

RPS (More than the TH350 Swap and no proven track record)
McLeod (Very expensive and a lot of maintenance and tuning. They wanted me to run an adjustable PP)
Hays (They won;t even make one as they have not been able to get anything to live)
SPEC (4 welded disks after thousands of breakin miles and countless hours of R&R Nuff Said!!!)
Centerforce (They said don't buy our stuff)

The 6 speed was great. Lots of people are getting them to work. I can't figure out how but I guess they are working for some. I wanted to race and then get the car home under its own power. I was unable to do that with a 6 speed.

Just my .02 Your mileage may vary.

another thing to check is the pilot bearing. my car did just what you said but at the top of 3rd shifting to 4th. would not go in gear, pulled over and tried to get it in gear and the car would start to roll forward. shut car off put in gear cranked it in 3rd and drove home slow.

I have had a few issues with my spec but now I think I have it adjusted just right and ran flawless at the track after going in 2 turns to take away peddle travel. I was leaving at 600 to 6700 and it held great. SPec stg 3 with an aluminum flywheel.

My SPEC 3 did the same thing at the track a few months ago. I started it in first gear moving and reved the hell out of it and it came free. I ended up getting 16 more passes out of it before it started slipping 2 weeks ago.

Spec sucks. They will treat you good and hook you up with another clutch, but it will be a piece of **** to. I went thru 3 and only one worked for me.
