Default clunks while engaging and disengaging clutch..ideas??`

Who else has this problem when your shifting your lower gears and something begins to clunk and also causes excessive chatter?? Mine happens when im going in and out of first or coasting in second and shifting into another gear. Anyone else have that problem or found a solution or have any ideas what the hell it could be??

Something clunks in mine when crusing in a parking lot in 1st for example, and I push down the clutch really fast. Almost like a "buckling" kind of feeling.
EDIT: I was thinking it might be the slack in the 10bolt, does anyone with a 12bolt or 9' experience this?

Is the noise coming directly under you where the tranny is? or is the noise coming from the rear end of the car? I recently experienced that same kind of noise and it was a broken tranny mount.

ive got a new tranny mount in there. are u all still running the stock driveshaft and stock master cylinder? The noise is coming from around the tranny i think. I dont understand how it could be the clutch if it just grabs and releases? it doesnt sound like its a noise caused by spinning as the flywheel and disk could..it does sound like it may be the pressure plate though...what clutch is everyone running?? ive got the ram powergrip hd.

most of clunk noise is from rear end, the rear end gear need a little play otherwise the gear will heat up very fast. while you accelarate in 1st then press down clutch, cause the drive line unload to making the noise.

also there will be very little play inside the tranny too!!!

i agree. i swapped mine out thinking that same thing and while it did help with some of the bucking, thats about it. My 9" should be here today, so after replacing that if its still there, then its either the clutch or the tranny. Could it possibly be the slave cylinder?? Im not 100% sure on how it works, but if its like i think, along with the pressure plate, its moves foward and back right? when you press the clutch pedal, in turn using the master cylinder that actuates the slave..could there be something there causing it? maybe something as simple as the fluid being worn?

Mine makes these same noises, seemingly without any side effects. I'd be interested to know what the sound is.

can all of you answer the following questions to see if there is a common part??
1. clutch
2.flywheel
3.DS
4.tranny mount
5. rearend
6. stock or upgraded master/slave cylinders
7. torque arm
this is to see in what area we're having the issues.

I've got a 9" with a Detroit Locker and I have a bad clunk from the tranny area when going into the next higher gear. I figure either my clutch is shot, 40,000 hard miles or my tranny is screwed up. I've got a Spec 5 and blocker ring kit ready to go in shortly.

my clutch is rather new. just a few months and not even 1k yet. I see your running a spec, so that eliminates it to being ram specific. Anyone think it could be the hydraulics..the master or slave cylinders?? maybe low on fluid? im just guessing here judging on the type of sound and how it related to the rest of the moving parts and how they funtion.

Hmmmmmm...let me see here:

1. Ram Powergrip (dual friction disk)
2. RAM billet steel (new when installed with clutch)
3. Stocker aluminum (3")
4. Prothane, no metal plate installed
5. Stocker 10-bolt, bolt in relocation brackets for LCAs (torque checked to no avail)
6. Stock hydraulics, no drill mod, new stock slave installed with clutch
7. I've used both the stock TA, and an LG torque arm, no difference. LG did feel a bit more solid though.

I'm leaning toward a combo of the clutch (it has been in there for 20k miles) and rear end slop.

our mods are similar, but bigdsz is running a spec, not a ram. id consider the clutch if i had more miles on it. im starting to think the hydraulics may be the culprit as well as the rearend slop. i may just replace my master and slave cylinders to see if that is indeed it..unless someone beats me to it.

I wonder if it has to do with the restrictors in the stock master -> slave line...
