Default I know this thread is old but this might be of interest

I posted this in the PCM section originally. It shows mileage by gear.

I have stock rear gear, and I wont go to 6th until after 69mph. Mine does have a cam though, and it doesnt make much power at 1500rpms. Its still almost kinda loping. lol You know what I mean? But 70 and above I am in 6th.

Old thread, but I'll post anyway.....I stay in 5th till 50, then 6th above that. I don't feel any sluggishness or bogging, with bolt ons, programmer and stock gears. When I did an upstate trip with it a few years back, before any modifications at all, I was in 6th for about 340 miles, the last half being up and down mountian roads, and got more then 350 miles on one tank of gas, filling up before the fuel light even came on. Even going up moutains in the Adirondack park, I rarely had to downshift to 5th.

I tend to use 6th gear alot at any thing over 45, I guess im just greedy with my gas though. At 45 I am running 1100 rpms with 3.42's which is fine for just cruising and then I go to fifth on steeper hills or passing.

i shift into 6th at 45 when i had my stock gears. it doesnt chug and it helps out with the gas mileage. no with 4.11s i shift at 40mph and it doesnt hurt anything. as far as hills go, ill downshift instead of chugging, but it hasnt hurt anything driving at 45 in 6th.

That's pretty funny. I remember when people used to debate how to use OD on the first 4 speed automatics. Some morons would only use OD on special occasions.

i agree with u guys, i get to the speed i wanna maintain then i go into sixth

I usually go by RPM's. At 55 mph I use 5th, at 60 mph I use 6th.

That's with 3.42 gears on the Z06 transmission.

The Adirondack northway is AWSOME I've never seen a cop north of the twin bridges unless there is a Dave Matthews Band Concert at **** or it's the first or last weekend of the race track. Otherwise you can do about 110, in which case, 6th gear is your best bet. I got about 28 mpg going 100+ for 130 miles into the Adirondacks

I have 3:42's and drive in 5th until I get up to 70+ MPH. I feel the RPMS while cruising should not fall below 2000, 1800 at the lowest to avoid unnecessary strain on the drivetrain.
