I am looking at buying a used Pro 5.0 shifter and they guy has shortened the stick by 1". So for those that did this, do you like it? Or would you rather it stock length?
Thanks,
Justin

Definately hack some off. The Pro 5.0 stick is rather long, just about as long as stock. I hacked off about 3/4 of the threads on mine, and I like that a LOT. I left about 4-5 threads for the shifter **** to thread on, and that was it.
However if you want to feel the shortest combo, put a short stick on there. I drove w/ that combo for over 2 yrs and love it.

Thanks Josh, the reason I ask was because with my ripper and MBA **** (sat down further on the stick) 3rd felt out of reach. I got a hurst comp plus and that suited my drving position real well. I could sit back and still feel comfortable shifting fast.
Here is a pic of the PRO 5.0 I'm looking at >>

I remember being the very first person on LS1.com to chop their Pro 5.0 shifter and back then that was a serious mod

Mine looks about like the one you have in the picture. It feels perfect in my opinion. If they are too short, the console seems to get in the way more and you get less leverage. You'll need that leverage once your synchros are gone and you have to jam it into each gear at WOT later.
Here is a side view picture of mine - chopped an inch.

Definately cut it. I bought Josh's Pro5.0 with the stick already cut and it's still a bit long for my taste.

Thanks, I can't wait to try it out. It seems like all the good shifters posted in this thread.
Jason, don't worry your synchros will eventually go south. I think I'm set on trying the kevlar disk Mcleod, only thing holding me back is the incresed pedal pressure from switching to an aftermarket PP.

They are headed south now. It's a bitch getting into 3rd gear sometimes at low speeds. WOT shifting is still OK, but I do kill the shifter going into each gear, so I can't tell it is offering any resistance.
BTW, check your mail on the rebuild.

shortened is definately better. I personally run a Lou's short stick (100x better than the factory Pro 5.0 stick IMO). but the factory pro 5.0 stick is 100x better than stock so that makes it like 100000x better than stock I guess

Big Plus on the 1 inch chop!!!
Yeah I don't have a 6 speed ..... but my freind has a ss that has a pro 5.0 and it has been chopped a little bit and I like it ALOT compared to his Hurst(biggest POS I have ever seen) in his 95 Z28
Maybe one day I will be able to Speak up for myself and say I have my own pro 5.0 in a black ram air or firehawk!!

I have a pro 5.0 in my 2000 SS. At first i chopped around 1 inch and I didn't like it, it still was to long. Now a got lou's short stick and it feels a lot better than before. But it is maybe just me.

Yeah cut it! I cut my Hurst comp over an 1" and it makes a difference in quick shifting. I tried the Lou short stick and its a straight shaft unlike Hurst comp plus which has a bend that brings the shift **** closer to you. I just find the Hurst to be ergonomically better suited for my driving position. To each his own.
If you are going to do the mod yourself I suggest you get a die and tap. I can't remember off hand the size die you need to re-thread the shaft but it's in millimeters (24mm???) otherwise if you cut to much off you then won't have enough threads on the shaft to properly screw on the ****.
