skip shift whyyyyyy
What the hell was the thought process behind skip shift? How will me going from 1st to 4th help gas mileage. As far as im concerned its the most useless idea gm has put out to date
theres nothing like a bogging down into 4th when you are out for a cruise

I really have never understood the complaint. I still have mine and it really has never bothered me. I shift 1st to 4th everytime unless I'm racing no bog or anything. I have had a few buddies ride with me and say my car reacts better so maybe I got a car that like it... Get great gas mileage also.

Before I got my CAGS module, I just waited until the SKIP SHIFT light went out before I shifted. If it meant holding first for a little longer and few rpms, so be it. Most of the time (99%), it just flickers so fast then it's gone because I'm always giving it a lot of gas to hear the GMMG.

There are 4 or 5 conditions that have be met(certain speed for certain time) for cags to turn on. I don't have them memorized, but they are there for a reason. I'm not a fan but in a stock car, they improve gas mileage by keeping the engine in low rpms when you are forced to shift into 4th.
Cars with mods that require higher mph for 4th gear to be driveable, are tuned anyway and cags is deleted.
But I still think smokin said it best

The skip control parameters ( ALL must be present to activate) are:
1)Temp. = the car must be warmed up
2)Vehicle speed reset= the car is at 0 mph and accelerating from a stop.
3)Vehicle actual speed= within a mph window (not active above/ below approx 3-5mph)
4) Throttle position= at some upper throttle pointthe system will not activate.
Ways to drive around the system:
A) Never actually have a 0 speed( rolling stops can be a problem)
B) Shift late( after the high parameter speed)
C) Burry the throttle.
Actually a combination of the above will result in very few skips but normal driving conditions will still cause a few.
