Default SPEC 3+ problems

On my way to work this morning my car had no 6th gear. I have 830 miles on the SPEC 3+, and it was installed at a SPEC dealer's shop. I have broken it in the right way and was going ot be taking it to the drag strip tonight. The rest of the gears are fine, and hook. It is just when I hit the gas in 6th it just slips, and I don't have to mash it to make it slip, just a little throttle. I have loved this cluth so far. anyone with ideas.

maybe 6th gear is gone???
but according to what you described above, if 6th gear drives fine under light throttle and rpm increase without speed under heavy throttle, it is your clutch slipping.

try to see if it slip in 5th just to make sure the clutch IS slipping

It is just slipping in 6th. I just got of the phone with SPEC and they said it is not the clutch and that it is the tranny because it would slip in all gears and that is ****. th is where people see it coming first as it takes a lot of load. I also just talked to a tranmission shop, and they said that it is the clutch.

Sounds kinda odd.. These clutches are pretty stout to be slipping at low rpm's like that. Maybe you should take it back where it was installed and have them go over it to make sure something isn't loose. Could really mess things up if it was installed improperly.

btw- did you have your flywheel re-surfaced or did you get a new one?

new flywheel, and I was there when the clutch was going in, so I know they put it in right. I got a e-mail back from SPEC and they said that I was beeing too easy on the clutch and it was still not broken in.

ya I though we had to be easy on them to break them in. I still can't get a answer on why the clutch would slip in 6th, and no other gears.

yes the first 500 miles your not supposed to get on it real hard. Should be mostly stop and go miles.

ya thats what I thought. So now I am suppose to beat the **** out of it to break it in. the SPEC person I talked to last time said that they were going to be changing their break in peiods to 1000 miles.

Well I guess I can go beat on it a bit and see if it helps but I don't see how beating on it will help it.

That's some weird ****. I can't think of why the clutch would slip in 6th and not in 1st!?! How many RPMs were you at in 6th when it was "slipping"??

this doesn't make sense to me either. I just took it out for a spin again and it is still doing it. only in 6th gear.

Your bellhousing bolts may have backed out...OR you have a bad clutch. The FIRST place a clutch going south will slip is the highest gears. Exactly what my Ram did when it went out.

Because the higher the gear the more load you put on the clutch.

I have a spec 3+ and it has been absolutely great for about 6000 miles now....I wouldnt drive the the car and risk destroying the clutch or getting stranded until you figure out exactly what is going on. It may be the bolts backing out or simply a defective clutch.... Any oil leaks on the rear of the engine?

no oil leaks just went out and checked. I really don't want to get on it and break it and get stranded, but that is what SPEC said to do. It;s like they are saying hurry up and break it so you can spend another 600-700 bucks.

So what would the life expectanxy of my clutch be then. a week or 2 months. Just trying to get an idea of when I need to replace it.
