POLL: Powershifting
I've never run the 1/4 on my gsxr 1k, maybe I'll get around to it this year.
I'm not much of a track guy. I hate waiting 5 hours to get 2, maybe 3 runs in. That and I don't have a trailer. Which means if I break up there, I'm paying for a tow home. As well as new paint and body work on my front bumper after the tow trucks drags my car up on the bed LOL.
Everyones got their own oppinion. But powershiftings works, and its there's nothing like the fealing of nailing a perfect shift. I've got my car for one reason. To have some damned fun. I don't care what breaks, as long as I know I'm going ***** out when it happens.
I'd say I wouldn't beat on it if it was my DD. But I powershift the bag outa my '86 3 series as well.

your in nashua , im in peabody, maybe well see each other at NED this summer....one other thing is if you look at my video , im pulling and pushing on the shifter before i shift, someone on the corvette forum called me on that and said it was a good way to bend things doing it....sure enough something is bent and grinding now, so heads up on that.....
have a good holiday to all
So a rebuild and new TEXtralia clutch later and I don't do it anymore. I am confident that IF the clutch was disengaging RIGHT when the pedal went to the floor and you didn't screw the shift up I think it would be ok. But the timing must be so precise that it's nearly impossible to keep from increasing the wear on the syncros.
I have gotten real good at speed shifting and have seen good results on the street and at the track, so I will stick with this method.
With that said it's the tranny, not the clutch that you should be worried about if you powershift.
My older brother would disagree with me on this. Last edited by SmaknaSS; Dec 16, 2006 at 01:12 PM.
Despite anyone not liking this thread it educated me without me having to make 2 new threads asking what powershifting was or if it as bad
Also it helped me not pointlessly try and use the search function for ten mintutes combing pages of posts that don't quite answer my question.
I got a lot of different reasons not to and a lot of examples why not to.
That and I didn't get bombarded with a-holes screaming use the search function
despite the fact that I needed specific questions asked and not general info or off color answers.I got a lot of info with the thread.
Stressful on the driveline, yes.
Beneficial in acceleration, yes.
Its give and take...

but i really picked up like .15 and ~1mph in the 1/4 mile.
