i dont know why anyone would not think powershifting cuts et's. The whole theory behind it says it all. No loss of rpm, momentum sure it's hard on parts but hell racing in general is too. Buy better parts. If it didnt cut et's then why do prostocks and all the fast shifted cars do it? I mean FAST shifted cars. Also i know a guy who was driving the **** outta his vette runnin 10.40's then he switched to a proshifted tranny and better clutch with alittle more tuning and the som biotch runs 9.9's now. And he was shiftin the **** out of it before. Pro shift is the s***

I'd put money on the fact that 80% of the naysayers, CANT powershift. Either that, or their scared to try it.

The other 20% of the naysayers probably don't beat on their car as much as I do. They also probably respect money more than I do.

Good for them

says the guy that goes through a clutch every 10,000 miles.....

and since your soooo interested about me and my cars i will let ya know a little bit about them. 95 Z28 M6 Heads n Cams with maybe a little bit of spray
sure i could powershift but i see no need to. this is a daily driven car that see's track action on the weekends. with driving M6 cars for so long, i can just float through the gears and not bang into each one hard like you seem to have to.

These cars ain't hard to drive. I'll tell you that much right now. I can shift with the best of them , theres no question about that.

So I'd say you're wrong.

Theres gains (and fun) to be had power by powershifting period. If you aren't breaking parts, you aren't driving it hard enough.

LOL every 10k...

I also agree that there are gains and fun to be had by power shifting at the dragstrip......now im not calling anyone anything that thinks different, but im also saying there is no way anyone can be faster or as fast without keeping your right foot planted and hitting every shift at the right rpm...it just isnt humanly possilbe,,,

now with that being said, i also had to replace the clutch in less than two seasons at the drags and now my transmission is grinding when i try to powershift, so there is a toll to be had on the parts,,,,,Im not saying you have to break things to go fast, but you have to be aware that things can and probably will break when you beat on them. But there is no way to get the best time out of your car/bike at the dragstrip without planting your right foot and never lifting it off the floor........it may mean a tenth or two, depends on the car and driver but lets face it, at the dragstrip a tenth or two is a lifetime

Im 53 and have thousands of runs at the drags on motorcycles and 4 years with my 2000 C5 corvette, im getting the hang of the car, its a lot harder for me than the bike and my 60' times are 1.9/2.0 range and my best time last year with a borla exhaust and blackwing intake was 12.63 ...

this is the 12.63 run at NED , be kind, im old

Have fun replacing your synchros/sleeves/clutch/gears more often.

synchroMESH, not synchroFORCE

I agree with you. I just disagree with all the naysayers.

I've never run the 1/4 on my gsxr 1k, maybe I'll get around to it this year.

I'm not much of a track guy. I hate waiting 5 hours to get 2, maybe 3 runs in. That and I don't have a trailer. Which means if I break up there, I'm paying for a tow home. As well as new paint and body work on my front bumper after the tow trucks drags my car up on the bed LOL.

Everyones got their own oppinion. But powershiftings works, and its there's nothing like the fealing of nailing a perfect shift. I've got my car for one reason. To have some damned fun. I don't care what breaks, as long as I know I'm going ***** out when it happens.

I'd say I wouldn't beat on it if it was my DD. But I powershift the bag outa my '86 3 series as well.

Im pretty sure 5w20 gained 3 tenths powershifting

Stressful on the driveline, yes.

Beneficial in acceleration, yes.

Its give and take...

Ran my best time powershifting 1-2 and 3-4, but no doubt it is HARD on the driveline comps.

Wow! I can't believe this thread is still alive. The simple fact is that closing the throttle blades stops airflow briefly. This airflow must then be restarted, which takes time. Unless you are epileptic, ram the rev limiter, or are severely traction plagued, powershifting will always result in better dragstrip times. Of course it is hard on parts, if this is an issue, you shouldn't be racing.
