Arrow Bad SPEC pressure plate? Doesn't fit Flywheel...

I just had my flywheel resurfaced. Brought over my pressure plate and bolts, but didn't make it that far.

The pressure plate doesn't fit snugly on the flywheel dowel pins. Not acceptable in my book, nor my machinists.

Anybody had experience with this? The holes are not precise at all, you can see clearly that they aren't perfectly round. This of course leads to the pressure plate moving around on the flywheel.

I'm going to go ahead and call the sponsor I ordered this from and go from there.

I'm curious as to who has delt with this before. Maybe this is an isolated case, but it's definately no good.

sounds like some one F'd up your flywheel on the resurfacing. or warped it..

Go to Autozone.. you can get an original GM flywheel from there for 189$... BUT.. you get a 130$ core for your flywheel... thats what I did.. everything fit perfectly.. im using a SPEC 3+

Just snugly on the dowel pins? How does it bolt down? You know the dowel pins are just there to line up the clutch right after balancing?Alot of clutches out there for LS1's don't even have dowel pins.

That's not at all possible.

The holes on the pressure plate are too big for the dowels. Maybe I'll post up a picture tomorrow.

I'll have to wait to talk to Spec tomorrow anyhow. The sponsor told me not to worry about it, and go ahead with the install. That's not happening.

FWIW, I'm a BMW tech. I've probably done 50+ clutch installs in a variety of models. This is the first time I've ever had a pressure plate slide around on the flywheel.

Unacceptable.

News to me. That makes no sense at all. It's important that the assembly be lined up perfect. Throwout bearing/clutch disk alignment are both going to be effected by this.

Oh Slowhawk. Do me a favor and thank Bryan again for me! I called my buddy Joe on Saturday and Bryan answered all my questions.

I'll be down once the F14/etc. are installed for a tune.

BMW.. GM... same thing right?? jk

My spec clutch dowl pin holes didnt fit snug.. they were a little loose.. and like the other guy said.. are just a guide so you can put the clutch on, and not have it slip off while you bolt down the pressure plate to the fly wheel.. BUT I think you might have a warped flywheel..

you are only to resurface the flywheel to .015.. anything more.. and you are out of specification according to SPEC.. try using a different flywheel and see what you come up with

LOL,thats because Bryan called me while he was talking to whoever

So,when you have all the bolt's in the PP still floats around? Forget the pins,I'm talking bolt's. Ussually a SPEC PP is real tight on the bolt's.

That is exactly what I would say. The dowels & the bolts in it should be in position & centered. Not floating around w/ all the bolts in loose.

I'll call SPEC in an hour or two. I've never had a pressure plate move around on the dowels.

If it's moving around, the bolts aren't going to center the PP. I don't see how this isn't going to effect the throwout bearing/etc.

A combination of this shitty PP, and the plastic clutch alignment tool are going to make this thing line up horribly.

Thanks again SLOWHAWK, haha. I knew he had made a phone call but had no idea it was you.
