Default Tranny for a 454?

WHat would be a good 4 speed tranny to pair up with a 454 in a 71 chevelle used to cruise and run the 1/4 mile a bit?

A built T56 would certainly be a nice setup. Figure, run deep gears out back (~4.56's) and yet you could still cruise on the highway because of the .50:1 6th-gear ratio! I'm currently installing a 6-speed into my '02 Z28, but now that I see the cost & availability of them isn't as bad as I thought, I'm considering trying to find one for my Dad's '73 Camaro as well! Right now it's got 4.10's and a TH350 ... it sucks on the highway. But hopefully a T56 could take more abuse than the Borg-Warner T10 that we busted in the '73 at the track?!

Two more gears...which equals a nice overdrive for mpg and less wear on engine, a lower first gear I think, but some fab work or at least an aftermarket crossmember will be in order
