Default Need Clutch Advise

I'm having a problem with my clutch and I need some oppinions. The clutch seems to be taking way too long to spin down. It's making my shifts feel really clunky unless I hold the clutch for a second before shifting. At higher RPMs, such as on the racetrack, trying to shift too fast results in gears grinding!
The pedal seemed to be starting to engage way too fast and way too low, so my first thought was that the system needed to be bled. I bled the system and got about a pint of what appeared to be muddy fluid out of it and finally got clean fluid coming out the bleeder. This made my pedal feel better and the car was drivable again, but my shifts are still really clunky and the spin-down still seems to be taking forever. There are no obvious adjustments to be made to this system so if this was your clutch/trans, what would you do?

Hey. Thanks for all the help guys. I really appreciate it. Armed with all this good info I have a great chance of actually fixing this myself without getting @ssraped by a dealer or mechanic.

It's very rare you see an actual technical problem get completely ignored on this board. How did I get so lucky?

Excuse me while I go kick the hell out of my clutch. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

not your clutch I'm thinking...I bet its your syncros that don't like slowing down the next gear for the gear change <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

I've tried a bottle of GM limited slip additive in the M6 with good success in the past

Synchros was my only other thought but I was trying really hard not to admit it to myself. Is that typically a "OMG! You'd better get that fixed yesterday or you're walking home" kind of thing or is it more like the kind of thing which will last forever as long as I don't take it to the track or what? And will putting limited slip fluid in my transmission (instead of ATF which I believe the sticker on the case calls for) shorten it's life? Is that a permanent fix or will I find myself under the car schleping fluid around every couple weeks? (This car gets roughly 500 miles a week put on it if I don't take it out on the weekend. Sometimes more than that.)

- PS. Thanks for responding. I was starting to think nobody had ever had this happen before.

just add 1 bottle of the additive and leave the ATF in there <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Gosh this could be any number of things really. Do you have the new style slave? have you done the drill out mod to the master? those are a couple things I can think of as far as the clutch goes. I know I have had problems shifting in the past and found it to be because of the restrictor in the line from the master. I have had quite a few problems actually so I'll just list hem here. My car has problems with the clutch not disengaging on quick shifts int 3rd due to the restrictor in the line. Because of this I was wearing out the synchros durring shifts (because with the clutch not disengaging, things were still being spun when they should have been freewheeling) Anyhow, when the synchros went out it caused me to have to somewhat force the car into gears. This caused me to wear on the dogteeth on the synchros. Also at this point, unless I would leave my hand on the shifter and force it to stay in third gear, a lot of the time it would pop out of gear, and eventually got to a point where it would pop out even with my hand on it pushing as hard as I possibly could to hold it in. This chain of events cost me to have to have the T56 rebuilt. etc... etc... Also a factor I think plays into this quite heavily is the fact that the new T56's aren't made by Borg-Warner here in Indiana anymore, but instead are being produced in Mexico. Quality just ain't what it used to be so to speak. As far as fluids go I religiously replace mine not with limited slip additive, but with GM synchromesh tranny fluid. works like a charm.
