Default stuck in reverse and forward?

This has happened 4 times over the last week. Hop in the car, put it in reverse, back out of the garage. Put it in first and the car won't move. Feels like it is in reverse and first at the same time. Will stall if i let out the clutch. I can try all the forward gears and it's the same. Taking it in and out of reverse a few times has fixed it so far.

What is going on the in the tranny? Wll it soon be dead?
I believe it was rebuilt by the former owner with in the last 2 years.

Sounds like you have a tranny gremlin, build it with some strong parts so you won't have to later, when you start modifications

Default Getting worse, please help!

Now it happens every morning.
Back out fine, move the shifter ot neutral or any other gear and it goes in that gear and reverse at the same time. Takes several minutes of going in out out of reverse and rowing the shifter to release.

Anybody have any help!

Could this be a reverse lockout issue? The car was converted from A4 by the previous owner.

Are you sure it's the tranny and not the rear end locking up on you

The last time I blew my 10-bolt, I coasted to a stop and when I tried to move, I ended up stalling a few times (both in 1st and reverse)

Here's a video of when it happened:

After a few hard jerks, she broke loose and we were able to push her into the shop

Your problem is inside the transmission. It will have to come out. The reverse lock-out solenoid WOULD NOT cause it to get stuck in reverse if it failed. It would only make it difficult to put it into reverse if it failed "open" (no voltage) or enable reverse easily at any speed if the circuit was always "closed" (constant voltage). Hope that helps.

Thanks GMRACER.

This is what I needed to know.

Now I can plan on some down time and get that thing taken apart.
