Default T56 c5 gearbox into a f body housing

Hello,
I reacently bought a t56 housing for a f body on here and I was wondering if a C5 gear box would work in the f body housing? A guy at my work has a c5 gearbox that he is willing to part with.
Any input would be great.
Thanks

Yes but you will need to replace the output shaft contact Rodney at RPM transmissions he just did this exact thing for me.

Would a c5 zo6 gearbox fit also with the changing of the output shaft?

The output shaft should have to be changed no matter what. The FBody is about 24" from end to end and the C5/Z06 is 27" from end to end.

Thanks,
Amber

Sorry I might have read that wrong. The C5/Z06 will work if change over to the GTO Shaft. Since only the Gear Ratios are different it would be just like doing the C5. To my knowledge that is the only way you can get the transmission to work.

Thanks,
Amber

The C5 input shaft is 1 inch too short.
I would think you could use the original fbody input shaft, but you wouldn't be able to use the 3 piece synchro rings that the Vette tranny uses. The GTO input is the correct length, but it only has 29 teeth, instead of 31. Like mentioned above, the mainshaft would have to be changed to an LS1 fbody style or GTO. It would probably be more trouble than it's worth. You might as well just put in a GTO tranny. All you have to do is change out the metal cup piece where the shifter ball goes. Hope this helps!
