Default Loose slave bolt?

Occasionally my car and MAINLY my gf's car has a sound similar to an old chalkboard and eraser. You know that vibration type of noise? I don't know how else to describe it.

This happens 89% when the motor is cold and I yes I did the install on the car. It happens when engaging the clutch in the morning when it's 90 or 45 degrees out. Typically happens on the 2 -3 shift if you don't slip the clutch that much. Primarily from dead stop to 1st. It goes away after it warms up. The only thing I can remember about her install was that one of her slave bolts would not go in all the way. The bolt hole was stripped bad. It is possible that the bolt backed out. You think this could be the cause? The car sounds like an elephant crossed with something out of Jurassic Park.

I replaced the salve when I did my own clutch swap about 1 year ago. Ever since, I have had what sounds like loose metal in the bellhousing and rattles when I accelerate or let off the throttle.

I have though about one of the slave bolts coming loose. The only thing is that the slave is sandwiched between the diaphram and the trans. If the bolts were to come loose, the slave would still disengage properly(I think). The only problem you would then have would be the slave 'slipping out' of place and riding on the input shaft, destroying your slave.

What would those two little botls sounds like when in the bellhousing? I have a clink sound on acceleration and deceleration and bumps, and it sounds like it is in the clutch area.

I have a little bit of a rattle/jingle that comes from my driver O2 sensor that could be confused for a loose bolt. Something to check. I seriously doubt you lost one of those bolts, speaking from experience the slave will not last very long in contact with the input shaft before you have some type of problem.

I'm not following you on the chalkboard/eraser thing, but think you might be describing clutch chatter?

any resolution to this problem?

for a while now i've had a similar sound. as i back out of the driveway i don't hear anyting. put it in gear fine and release the clutch and get a strange grinding/chattering sound. this is different from what the clutch chatter sounded like on break in.

it will make that sound for the first 1 or 2 times i pull out from a stop. DOESN'T do it when shifting to 2nd.

then it goes away...car has to sit a while before it does it again.

what's got me worried is that i'm not getting almost no clutch pedal...but i have to try bleeding it really well first...

Thats why you use loctite on all bolts, that way they stay put the way you left them.

Yes loctite is great stuff. I'm almost afraid to use it on things! LOL

Thanks for the feedback, but if you read the above the only thing I can remember about her install was that one of her slave bolts would not go in all the way. This was a feeling of the bolt hole being stripped or something. Starts threading in and then just keeps spinning. Hard to back the bolt out.

yeah it probably stripped but if you used red loctite on it you could have left it in there and it would have spayed put.

Why would it be a waste, because it chatters? yes the stage 3 will chatter unitl it is well broke it. If you dont break it in right too it may chatter forever. My 3+ chattered when i first put it in and after a few hundered miles of city driving the chatter is gone and now it drives just fine.

I have a spec 3 with a little over 1K miles on it, works great, no chatter at all.

I have...it was me! LOL 25k? Good lawd!! I'm lucky to get 10k. Usually 7500 to 10k on those is my avg. That's why I'm doing some construction this weekend.

AND LET ME REITERATE HERE:

It's not a constant chatter at all. It's in the morning or if it cools for 4 to 6 hours. It happens only from dead stop to first. Might do it once or twice then done until it cools again. I definitely know that it's broken in correctly

Funny how it kinda happened to both clutches and I did the install and break in on both. It's more so with hers, but I've heard mine do it a time or two as well.
