Default Spec 3+ issues

I want to know what your guys that have owned a Spec 3+ (full disc) clutch think of it. Were there any problems with it? What kind of power were you throwing at it? How nice on the street is it?

I just picked one up with a billet spec flywheel for a good price and was wondering what everyone thinks of it.

stage 3 carbon, stage 3 + kevlar, stage 5 iron, went through all of them in about 5,000 miles, they use to be a good company, lateley the have had horrible clutches IMO from experience and through friends using them as well. I would send the extra now and get the tex single disc. It most likey will save you money in the long run

I've had my Spec 3+ in my car for 2 years now. Over 100 passes on a 150 shot of spray. Broken a 12bolt and even rebuilt the T-56, but never had a problem out of my clutch. I love it, and would highly recomend the Spec 3 + to anybody!

I had a 3+ for 6k and about 100 passes in the 11s on motor and 10s on 150 shot. Clutch felt great even after all those runs. Never had any problems, felt as smooth as stock.

Your going to get mixed reviews, not everyone out there is a great driver, nor is everybody a great mechanic who can set up a Clutch/Bleed it. Also depending on the setup, like a big cam with stock 3.42's it could require more slipping of the clutch or it might bog where its stressing it badly. Had my best bud with a 420 rwhp cam/bolt on car, 3.73's burn a Spec 3 up in 10k miles But then put a 3+ with 4.11 gears with a moser and those street issues went away and I feel that this unit will last. Thunder Racing verified based on the set up, nothing should have happened to it at that power level, execpt for lack of rear gear.

I guess getting stuck on the George Washington Bridge in a 4 hour traffic jam from E-town, back to connecticut didnt help.

You need to speak with MATT@SDPC and buy a real clutch. My recommendation is the exoskel and be done. I just ordered mine.

Too late i bought a spec 3+ already for very cheap. If it sucks i will get an exoskel. Swapping a clutch is pretty easy so I dont care if I have to swap it again.

It was 400 with the billet flywheel. i am NOT sending it back and i dont care if I wasted money in your opinion. I think the star plate stage 3 is a waste, but i want to try out the full disc 3+.

Thanks for trying to help, but there are people that have had no problems with this clutch. My instinct tells me that the people with problems did not set up the clutch right or did not do a proper break in.

Yeah, I had my done by a friend who works at a trans shop and evrything installed and went well, BUT once I started driving the truck it was in a snow storm. Should not have made a difference but it did. I then went and did a lot of hauling with a trailor full of wood for my wood stove and started noticing this loud screeching noise. The clutch had 1200 miles on it when I bought it. I had SPEC check it and they said it looked great so I installed it. 500 miles later it went out. So like some say it depends on your driving characteristics and most def the break in. Unfrotunatley this clutch was suppose to handle towing BUT it did not do so well.

Spec's quality control is a mixed bag, roll the dice and see what you get. some people love them and they last forever and they give it hell and it keeps coming back, then you get people like me that it last's 4,000miles of no track passes and easy driving... oh and i even had my SPEC out of my car within 500 miles because the assembly was never balanced from spec, The **** stain "Daniel" from there "said" they went through everything and it all looked fine, they sent it back to me a month later and all they did was sand my flywheel down, never even balanced it, i have nothing but horrible things to say about spec

my personal thoughts on SPEC is....

Mine went on the dyno with spray after 50miles of break in. No problems here.

My thoughts exactly. I called them and sent pictures of the clutch and all was good now at almost 500 miles the ******* thing slips like crazy. I could not have put it any better. The guy I delt with was David not very helpful at all.
