Is my clutch going out? (a little long)
here it is.....2001 Z28....factory Z06 clutch.....22,000 miles on it.
Driving around "normal" (not holding the gas peddle on the floor). The clutch works perfect....couldn't ask for more.
When I punch it, I get problems. As follows:
1) stop light turns green....push the gas all the way and dump clutch at 2500 RPM (so I don't spin)
2) hold gas to 6500 and prepare to make shift from 1st to 2nd
3) Go to push clutch peddle in......peddle is fully extended (farthest away from floor) at start....
4) Clutch disengages and make shift to 2nd.....drop clutch and push gas all the way.....
5) Hold gas to 6500 and prepare to make shift from 2nd to 3rd
6) Go to push clutch peddle in......peddle is now 3/4 extended (has lost 1/4 of its travel to the floor) at start....
7) Clutch disengages (a little less responsive though ) and make shift to 3rd.....drop clutch and push gas all the way.....
8) Hold gas to 6500 and prepare to make shift from 3rd to 4th
9) Go to push clutch peddle in......peddle is now 1/2 extended (has lost 1/2 of its travel to the floor) at start....
10) Clutch disengages (much less responsive ) and make shift to 4th.....drop clutch and push gas all the way.....
11) Hold gas to 6500 and prepare to make shift from 4th to 5th
12) Go to push clutch peddle in......peddle is now barely extended (has lost most all of its travel to the floor ) at start....
13) Clutch disengages (does not seem like it really wants to work ) and make shift to 5th.....drop clutch and push gas all the way.....
14) now.....get off it.......just drive in 5th for....say....30 seconds to a min......everything is fine again....as if nothing had ever happened.....peddle has nice movement......clutch moves......
So what the hell is going on? A guy at a local speed shop said it sounds like I'm smoking the clutch.....(I never had this problem when I had the 245s on the rear...now have 295s). Also, when I start to hit about....6100 RPM, it seems like the engine is increasing in RPM faster than the car is speeding up (acceleration dips).
Thanks...sorry its so long... <img border="0" alt="[Camaro]" title="" src="graemlins/camaro.gif" />

Re: Is my clutch going out? (a little long)
Its a hydraulic issue. Your braided line between the master and slave is probably near the header/exhaust and it simply gets hot, changing the viscosity properties of the fluid. Once it cools down, its back to normal.
I'd suggest changing the fluid, it may be old, burnt, etc...
And, at 22K miles, I'd bet your clutch is almost done for if you drive the car hard.
