Default T56 Rebuild

I am about to pull the trans on my 99Z to freshen it up with new synchros and steel 3-4 shift fork. I have never done anything this involved to a car, but this is not a DD and I am willing to take my time. Is this seen as a pretty hard task or something straight forward? I'll be able to get access to a press, but I'd rather no have to use it. I'm doing this because I hear some serious grinding when I shift hard into third. Any suggestions on what parts to buy and who to buy them from would also be appreciated.

check out sixspeed inc formerly known as t56 rebuild. im ordering the stage 4+. but mostly everyone on here goes through them and if u mention ls1tech you get free shipping. vary good people and excellent customer service.

if u havnt done it before i would suggest bringing it to someone. as for what to get get the stage 2 you dont need any of the plus's unless you are going to throw some serius power at it.

Thanks for the info. I'd like to at least try to do it myself. If I don't try it at least once, I'll always be in a situation where I haven't done it before. You gotta start somewhere.

Well, that is the way that I usually like to work on my car, but this time I wanted to buckle down and try to get something done. Has anybody successfully replaced synchros before. I'm trying to psyche myself up to at least go out there and drop the tranny.

Well, that is the way that I usually like to work on my car, but this time I wanted to buckle down and try to get something done. Has anybody successfully replaced synchros before? I'm trying to psyche myself up to at least go out there and drop the tranny.

I did, it was the first transmission I had ever rebuilt.

Get the manual for it (free, run a search), stay organized, buy/make the tools you'll need.
