spacer shim for slave cyl- to use or not to use?
im putting a new clutch in, a ram powergrip hd, it comes with the spacer shim. Im using a resurfaced flywheel. its only been resurfaced once. i have a brand new ram adj master cyl , and a 01-02 slave as well. is there anything advantages/downfalls with using the shim? its just so the slave can push the pressureplate harder right? its not going to cause my slave to die an early death or anything is it?

I prefer the adjustable master. The proper adjustment is key though, you have to leave just a little freeplay in the pedal.
Then you can put the pedal to the most optimal position possible.

my ram slipped like crazy with the shim and a spec aluminum flywheel. my suggestion is if you have a stock flywheel use it, if not leave it out. I took it out, and it was fine. I was so pissed I had to do it twice, I can tell you one thing, the ram is no way comparable to the spec 3 I had, and if I have to do it again the ram will not go in the car.

The reason they send the shim in the kit is you need it for that clutch/pressure plate. The reason being is that the slave cylinder can only extend so far. If it overextends for too long it will begin leaking and/or burst. The guy I bought my car from had installed a RAM HD powergrip without the shim and it lasted a whole 2000 miles. I resurfaced the flywheel replaced the slave w/ the shim included in the kit and 8000 miles later its still working great.

NP man good luck! My slave had started leaking real bad right after my clutch was totaly gone so even if my disc would have had some material left it wouldnt have been long for the slave.

Can anyone tell me the thickness of the shim for the SPEC clutches? I need to fabricate one, as I have immediate engagement. I bought the SPEC stage 2 slightly used and it came without a shim.
