my 02 has had the crap kicked out of it and no problems yet, i powershift the crap out of it everyday and have launched on ET drags at 6 grand 20+ times and it still feels brand new. i hope it stays that way.

I had mine in my 2000ss rebult 2 times then I bought a used 01 tranny and it went out in 1000 miles it is getting rebult again and my tranny shop is having a hard time getting it right. My car has 16k miles on it and has never wore a set of slicks and only been to track 3 times about a year and a half ago. No more 6 speeds for me.

Interesting that I see this thread today...

I went to the track yesterday for the first time with this car to get a baseline before the mods. First run was fine. Second run I spun most of 1st, got it into 2nd and the clutch broke loose. Couldn't get into 3rd, and sandbagged the rest of the run. My friends all said I left a big puff of smoke which obviously smelled like clutch. Car seemed fine on the ride home, but I obviously took a few thousand miles off the life of the stock clutch

I have never been in love with this tranny. I have difficulties getting into 1st and 3rd sometimes. I'm not sold on the clutch pedal feel either...

With only 1300 miles on my 2002 SS Camaro, 3rd gear is trashed (gets stuck between gears on 2-3 shift) with stock clutch and no power added. Looking into D&D upgrade parts.

This might very well be the problem that most people are having. After 2-3k the defective missalligned case will chew up certain parts.

If I were you Id forget about the D&D parts because most likely your trans will just chew them up and spit them out too. I would lobby for a new trans altogther, making sure that it was made recently. Hopefully GM and their sucky supplier tremec would have figured it out by now.

I had about 1300 miles on my SS when the transmission got stuck in 4th gear and I have a friend that got his SS about a month after mine and his transmission has gone out 3 times (stuck in fourth gear)..

Mine recently started popping out of 3rd when let the clutch out. took it to the dealer and they said "we ordered a third gear, syncro, and collar" so I guess mine needs a rebuild too.

Good luck with GM 2K2 LS1

I went through 3 trannys with my '99 Formula. First it started grinding 5th and would not go into 6th at all.

They rebuilt it.

Next it started grinding 4th. On the way to the dealership I slowed down for a light. The light changed before I came to a stop. Tried to put the car in 2nd gear. Nothing. Would not go into ANY gear as I am rolling down the road! Get the car stopped and decide I am gonna have to push it. With the shifter in NEUTRAL; I let the clutch out to get out and the car BACKED UP! It was crunched in reverse with the shifter in neutral! Entire main shaft was seized. LOCKING IN REVERSE WITH THE SHIFTER IN NEUTRAL WHILE IN MOTION IS A SAFTEY ISSUE I THINK!

They replaced that tranny with a new one.

Then the replacement started grinding 4th gear . This they blamed on my Power Tower shifter. I had this shifter on 2 of the other trannys.....they didn't have an excuse for the other problems.

They rebuilt the replacement----this is where it gets interesting..... This time I also got a new driveshaft. Something about a driveshaft that is too long will bash the rear tranny bearing when the suspension bottoms out. You might want to have them try replacing the driveshaft. Sorry that was sooooooo long.

From what I have read the pre-01 trannys have a better track recoard than the newer ones. It seems that TREMAC bought BORG and after 'oo the T-56 was built to TREMAC specifications instead of BORGs.

I have 14500 on my 02 SS. Only 10-12 passes on it so far but the M6 has been flawless. Finger's crossed.

i know for a fact that there is a TSB on 3rd gear popping out. i work on T56's here in corpus christi, tx at Vista chevy and i had to fix this problem several times already under warrenty. not yet has one came back with the same problem again after replaceing 3rd syncro, updated fork and rod. i understand that this problem seems very common here on this site but in the real world, it is not very common at all. most T56's will never have a problem and the ones that do are usually because of power shifting. personaly, i think that there is a bad batch of houseings out there causeing the shift rod not to line up properly but GM will not listen to me and they just tell me to put a rod, fork and syncro. i also own a 2002 with an M6 and i have not had any issues with it at all besides a broken axle shaft at the track (dam those 7.5's). i also power shift mine serveral times every weekend. now that i think about it, i have replaced more A4's in camaros then M6's.

I have 34,000 on mine - no problems except for occassional minor grinding going into 2nd. Usually just happens when it's cold, though. I don't abuse the car, but don't baby it either. Around 7 runs down the strip.

'01 M6 WS6 here. 26,450 miles. I've only been down the track with it about 4-5 times, but I do racing schools, lapping days, ORR ( Silver State Classic ) My tranny has performed flawlessly, as a matter of fact it seems to shift better now than when new. It was extremely stiff for about the 1st 5-10,000 miles, and then loosened up.

'01 Z06.

I'm on my 5th tranny rebuild so far. POS T56...22,000 miles only. I don't powershift either. I believe the clutch doesn't fully disengage because the clutch fiuld boils near the slave cyl and makes it useless...

00 m6 and gm just did a complete rebuild for $3000.00 and it took them 3 weeks. 3rd gear was the initial problem with 8000 miles on the car. Third gear let go and the rest of the trans imploded on the inside. They rebuilt it and already having problems with 3rd gear again. No power shifts at all and not even my daily driver anymore.
