transmission is acting funny.. please help

transmission is acting funny.. please help well ill start off with it popping out of reverse.. and yesterday i get in my car and i notice that when i went to move the shifter over to the right ( to put in first) it is much tougher, it is hard to push it to the side now... and the rest i know i can fix with the drill mod ( sticking clutch pedal and what not) but i wanna know whats going on with the reverse, and it being hard to move the shifter around when its in nuetral....
