Default Went to the track, Clutch is slipping, 1.75 60 ft.

alright, well i have a stock clutch in my camaro, i launched at 4000 rpm and it slipped and 2nd gear felt like it wasnt even there.

i thought i would get more than 3 runs out of it before it started to slip.
anyway i need a new clutch and want to head back,

i ran a 12.50 @ 112

i was hoping for deeper into the 12's so i want a clutch that can take a higher rpm clutch drop.

its a weekend driver, see's the track only a few times a year, so drivablity is great.

yes i have read lots, ppl seem to hate the spec, but my friend had a spec in his blown z28 and i never had a problem when i drove it. so i dont know what to do.

i dont really want to spend $1200 + to get a new clutch, so im not quite sure what to do? do i need a twin disc? i make less than 400 rwtq.

im running Drag radials, and am looking for a set of Et Streets,
and plan to do 5000-6000 rpm clutch dumps.

i dont think an ls7 clutch would live long with that, sure its great drivability. but i dont think it would work for to long

You are gonna run ET streets on the street, not a good high speed tire. For 1/4 mile blasts or short trips to the race track and home they are fine. I have them on my GN, hate the feel on the street, going back to drag radial-just a little heavier. By the way 1.75 60' on stock clutch is great the best I could cut was high 1.8's, also slipping with only 21,000 miles on my 01 SS.

single should be fine at 400rwhp

I would go with a textralia or a LS7 clutch

Ive even got my clutch (Z06) that I pulled off my car that may work. PM me if your interested.

no no, im using my dr's for the street, BFG. i want a set of slicks 100% for track use only.

with a good clutch, say a spec stage 3+ (the one i got my eye on)
and a et of et streets what kind of 60 ft time would i be capable of?

and also, say et streets vs bfg dr's would it be much quicker? can i hit the 1.6's with my bfg's and a new clutch?

I would not hesitate to go with a Spec 3+!

i just called spec, they said the best application for me would be the 2+ it will still take the odd track day, ( i dont go often ) but would be way more comfortable for street use.

he said if im going to the track like half a dozen or more times a year, the 3+ is the way to go.

i put maybe 15 passes a year on my car, and like 3500-4000 miles a year on the street. so im kind of leaning towards the 2+

For a couple extra $$'s, I would go with the 3+. It has a minor increase in pedal pressure but is hardly noticiable between the two. My girlfriend can drive mine in stop and go traffic without any problems, so I wouldn't let that stop you. Plus if you ever decide to upgrade or mod your engine you will be covered for just about anything you decide to do. Who did you talk to at Spec? Jeremy has treated me right in the past and always helped me out with any qustions.

dont buy SPEC, it isn't worth the gamble. do a little research on here and you'll find 100 horror stories for every 1 succes story. i just recently bought a Textralia OZ700 "Z" grip clutch with a billet flywheel from Byunspeed, a sponsor on here. i was experiencing the same slippage problems as you, but now it's great. the textralia feels like stock, IF NOT SOFTER, and engages very, VERY nicely. worth every penny imho and in everyone elses opinion that has one.

...just my $.02

arn't tex's a ton of money? plus how many people if they are happy with a product come to praise it? i personally know 3 people running spec clutches and everyone of them are 100% satisfied, and they all say the customer service in unbeatable.

tex's are obviously the best, but for double or triple the cost, i dont know if it would be worth it imo. and i didnt know the 3+ was that similar.

what about for drivability with chatter and stuff like that? are you happy with it?

also it seems that most spec clutches are just not set up properly and thats why people are having problems.

i have 0 complaints about my Textralia. it WAS more money, but worth every penny. i was looking at SPEC 3+'s too, but found too many cases where they failed. it would be safe to assume that many of them were installed wrong or not broken in properly, but then again, there are too many problems being had for me to feel safe with one. i wasn't sure about their driveability either. the reason a lot of them go is because people slip them too much on the street when they're supposed to be a on/off switch. i got my clutch, billet flywheel, and ARP hardware for like $980 or something like that. it was on sale....regular price is pretty high, but i had just worked two consecutive weekends with a holiday in between so i had a big paycheck. that was the only way i could justify buying it.

BUT, the clutch is perfect. soft pedal, no chatter, no breaking in period, digitally balanced with 0 tolerance. ready to go right out of the box. no shimming the slave cylinder. like i said, NO complaints.

i can understand not wanting to spend the money. if i didn't get all that overtime and they weren't on sale, i might be using a SPEC clutch myself. but if you can hold out and save your money, i would do so for the textralia.

again, just my $.02. everyone has different needs and different funds. i'm not trying to run SPEC down or sound like a Textralia representative...just saying what i've seen and heard.
