Help with Slave Cylinder Removal
Hey guys getting ready for my Textralia clutch to arrive so I decided I would go ahead and pull the trans.
I am having a slight problem. I CANNOT get the slave cylinder to unbolt.
Install University claims that there are "two" 10 mm bolts holding it on there.
My cars slave has much smaller bolts. Does anyone know if 98s had different bolts or something.
I was just wondering if anyone had any special tricks to unbolt it. Not much room to work between the trans and bellhousing.
Thanks~

go ahead and just unplug the hose from the slave...if u get ANY air in the system from it then it will be next to zilch. use one of those fuel line disconnecter tools...much easier than the standard "2 screwdrivers" everyone seems to do on this board. ONE thing u need to know, plug the line back in the slave before u slide the tranny all the way up to the bellhousing. If u don't then it's gonna be next to impossible to plug it back in unless u loosen the bleeder from the slave to releave the pressure the pressure plate is putting on it. if u are worried about air in the system from disconnecting the line then go to auto zone and rent a mity vac...there is a very nice and easy to understang write up on this board. just do a search for "mity vac" and u'll find it. it's got pics and all.

look on install university, they have pics. right were the braided line looks like it's going into the tranny there is a quick disconnect right there with a lil plastic ring. that plastic ring needs to be pushed in towards the slave to disconnect the line. on install university they talk about using 2 flat screwdrivers to disconnect it with, that can be a pain. just use a fuel line tool.
oh, the lil bolts holding ur slave on...they are the same size as everyone elses. 10mm. I had a 98 also and did a clutch swap in that too.

Ok thanks man, I used the trick to remove the braided line. Got the trans out.
Now, I've got all the bellhousing bolts out. I cannot pull the bellhousing off though. Does the starter have to come out to remove the bellhousing?
Its stuck and I've tried prying. Other than the starter, I see nothing else that could possibly keep it held on.

Nevermind, I pulled the starter and the bellhousing still isn't budging.
According to Install University, all you got to do is pull all the bolts on the bellhousing and it should come out.
Well, I've got them all out and the starter and it still isn't coming.
Am I missing something? lol

A lot of the time, the condensation from the AC will drip down on to the bell housing and fuse the dowels in there. Best bet is to get a piece of wood, put it in the starter area against the bell housing and bang on it with a hammer and it should loosen the bell housing.

Ok, I tried using a large wrench ( 11/16 ) and wedged it in between the engine and bellhousing and hammered it in there. The top is still froze in place. If I crank on the wrench anymore - it will break.
Thanks lilbuddy, I will try that!

Yeah, there is one bolt that is pretty high on the bellhousing where the housing bolts in. Mine was a pain in the *** to get off my first time too. Like lilbuddy said, the dowels can kind of fuse in there. Just make sure all the bolts are out, and get to prying. I used a really long flat screwdriver, hammer, and two sets of hands to get mine off.

Took us about a 1/2 hour to get mine off. We got it loose by putting a pry bar in the inspection hole. the driver's side came loose but not the passenger. We then wiggled it up and down and side to side before it finally came loose. After we got it off, we could see there was rust build up on the passenger side alignment dowl.
