Throw Out Bearing or Transmission?
So all of a sudden i am hearing this grinding noise around the transmission area. It is kind of random. I can be in gear and it will just start grinding all of a sudden, so i push the clutch pedal, put it in Neutral, and it still doesnt stop. It only stops when i put it in another gear. Sometimes its hard to get into a gear (no gear in particular), but not often. It never pops out of gear. Today it seemed to grind a little whenever i would be letting off the clutch and giving it gas, but when it was all the way out and i was accelerating it would stop. I went to one shop and the guy said it was probably the input bearing in the transmission. I talked to another shop and he seemed almost certain it was the throwout bearing from the symptoms described. The transmission fluid was checked and was full in May. I havent bothered with that because someone on here had similar symptoms and changed the fluid and it didnt go away, but thats the last they posted about it. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

A couple other shops seemed to think it was the throwout bearing, so im getting a Stage 3 clutch from Kentucky Clutch Wednesday. Im also going to just have them install my Pro 5.0 that just came in the other day since theyll have the transmission out anyway. Cant wait, hope all is well afterwards.

Let us know what you find out. My clutch took a dump last time at the track and it makes an awful noise when you try to ease the clutch out. It's hard to explain the sound, almost a spinning rotating disc sound. I am installing a new clutch, slave cylinder, throwout bearing this weekend.

Im taking it to a shop tomorrow and getting a new/better clutch put in. I dont know if mine has ever been replaced. 94k miles bone stock when i bought it a few months ago. It grabs great... well, grabbed great. Always spun the tires when powershifting from 1st to 2nd, and chirped 3rd on the occasion (granted i do have 16" 235's, hah). Ill report back what all i find out.

if sound is still there when clutch pedal is press then I would say trans or pilot bearing. but realy only way to be sure is to remove trans so all associated parts could be inspected... good luck man hope fully its not the trans.

They said the pilot bearing was the cause of the noise. They also said the throwout bearing was bad, but i dunno. Either way the new clutch and shifter are in, and although they are going to take some getting use to, i love them already. Hopefully all is well now and i dont hear any more noises. Good call on the pilot bearing.
