No such thing a bullet proof T56. But you can go to http://www.ddperformance.com/GM%20T56.htm for build up.

Now, I know nothing about this guy, but I found his offering interesting.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2421714016
Of interest are the solid synchronizer keys, the heavier retainer rings, and the modified 1-2 shift fork. Don't see those in too many places yet.
Again, I have no idea who this guy is, I just found his offering 'interesting'.
What I don't like about remanufactured/rebuilt trannies is - do they replace the slider gears? I'd bet that most don't, or they use 'used' ones, and that can cause problems (because those parts aren't cheap). That's why I'll be doing my own work on my T56's. So I know exactly what's going in it and what's being replaced. It is not rocket science. Anyone with a manual, a badass set of snap ring pliers, and access to a press & bearing splitter can rebuild one (IMO
). I've got 3 in the works right now. One is a 'rebuilt' unit that had the same problem after rebuilding (difficulty going in to 3rd). Turns out they replaced the synchros, but not the 3-4 slider. The 3-4 slider is FUBAR'd and they did nothing about it. I don't know who did it, but it'll be done right this time around. ![Winky](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_wink.gif)

I have a transmission *rebuilt* with the same components by that guy on ebay. He is a real standup guy, he even shipped me the transmission before I completed payment. Not many people would do that. There is some feedback on him at the corvetteforum. Granted, the problem in the bulletin posted a page or two back by FreakZ happened to me, that was my fault due to the shifter stops. He offered to fix it for free, so long as I pay shipping. Incredible guy. The tranny held up well before my 4th gear got stuck, and I realized what was going on. He also had my transmission done within one day, and shipped back. Ridicolous timing. I sent it in 2 days shipping, he called me up the next day and said it was done and he was shipping it back the following morning!! 100% fair. My transmission took a decent beating before I overshifted 4th and broke some things. My fault. There are several guys on corvetteforum who have 50-75k miles of abuse on there unit. Excellent guy, Excellent product, Excellent warranty.

the e-bay guy is selling d&d performance tranny parts. or a similar supplier's iron shift forks and new synchro keys. i've heard rumors of ppl cryo'ing the output shafts, but honestly, there's no real need for this unless you are snapping them like crazy, and i've only ever seen one person do that, and he was running a very large turbo. i've also seen these trannys cut high 1.20 60's.
i've done my own in my garage 2 times now, not to mention the 5-6 ins and outs it took to get it right. all this with a set of snap ring pliers, and a couple basic hand tools. and one specialty GM 5-6 gear puller. just remember where everything goes, and you'll learn a couple of assembly tricks along the way. it's really not all that difficult, it just looks that way. every t-56 owner should be able to do this themself, and it dosent even take a 90 dollar manual. you can use the pdf file thats been posted on this site.

I rebuilt my third T56 this past weekend. I agree with ya Vince, these things are easy as paint by numbers. The fourth T56 (my 'race spare') is already in pieces in my shop awaiting a rebuild.
