hi first time poster long time reader i have a 2001 z28 and i was installing a new clutch and flywheel ect. and my stock pilot bearing or bushing i cant tell if it is there or not heres some pictures showing the new bearing and part of something that fell out when removing the old one but thats all that was there

no part of the bearing race appears to be still in there. in the back of the crank is a freeze plug. but the beat up part before it is the old bearing get that out with a srew driver or something.

My guess is that stuff that came out is some sort of bearing retaining compound to reduce the risk of it spinning in the crank. Or maybe someone before you had a problem where it spun in the crank if the rollers locked up. I wouldn't be too worried about it if you need to use a fair ammount of force putting the new one in. If it slides in real easy clean it as best as possible with methanol after wire brushing and use loctite red to keep it from spinning.

Was that thing making noise?
I just got my trans out and looked at the pilot bearing,it looked to be in good shape. I am going to replace it with a new one, I figured the stock one lasted 100k so I'll go with that.

well ive tried for hours and i cant chip it away so ive jammed a socket in it and tried to turn it out didnt work I just ended up getting the socket stuck and spent in hour trying to get that out. But hopefully i expanded it some to try and get the new bearing in. I didnt get to try tho cause now its raining out

Thats how mine looked when I did my clutch. It caused my car to make a grouning noise. It looks like the outer piece of the pilot bearing is still in there. You also need to make sure that bad pilot bearing didn't grind down your input shaft.

well i tried a bearing puller it didnt do nothing but pull what ever that cap is in back half way out. so now im going to try using a dremel to cut it hopefully that will work. If doesnt I'll go down and get some c4 and have some fun.

well i finally got it out i did a little damage to the crank but i dont care its out. to anyone who wants to know how i did nothin different then a puller and most i prayed and it came
