What are the opinions of the Spec Stage 3's for my application? Is an adjustable master recomended for that?

I have never seen a H/C put down 480/460 RWHP/RWTQ! Maybe a stroker but no H/C. Either way go with a RAM 910/402 VDS. It will come with new hydraulics(adjustable master), pressure plate, disk, and billet steel flywheel.

What kind'a money am I looking at for the RAM?

I see ~$1000 on a few sites... I really can't afford that.

My car is a bit more than 'just' heads and cam... but, it does put down about 480/460

I have also herd good things about RAM clutches from my tuner. Iam still a little weary about it holding up with my system. Iam putting down 531RWHP/502RWTQ. I love to powershift and I dont think that the RAM clutch might hold up to this kind of abuse.

I dont want to run this clutch for a year and have to replace it. I have herd good things about Mcleod Dual Disk. But I have also herd that the dual disk clutch are a pain in the *** to drive.

Has anyone driven with the dual disk setup, Is it really that dificult to drive? Iam really worried about the drive quality. Thats why my tuner recomends ram but I can get the mcleod dual disk with aluminum flywheel for 600 bucks from a friend that wrecked his vette and had purchased the clutch and never installed it.

Iam torn. What do you guys think?

mcleod dual disk W/ aluminum flywheel 600bucks

vs.

Ram 6130 w/ aluminum flywhell 1000bucks

The 910 disk is what Mikey @ Rapid Motorsports recommends for stage 2 H/C with N2O. My SS with nitrous will net about 530-580RWHP. Call Mikey at Rapid. Good Ls1 clutches will be about $700-$1000.00. Just remember clutches are WEAR items. You can't expect to spend $500 on a clutch and beat the HELL out of it and expect it to last forever. Spend your dough right the first time! RAM is a great company! Also, just as important as the clutch itself, maybe even more so is the installation. The install must be perfect! Get someone who knows the LS1.

Hrm.. maybe I need to back out of the spray then..

I just can't afford $1000 right now, and my Z06 is shot..

So, out of the few that are in my price range... McLeod Single with adjustable master ($650), or Spec Stage 3 Ceramic? (GP for $469) or Spec Stage 4 ( $519 ) ? and add an adjustable master to either of those...

Opinions?

Maybe I can't read Rapid's site, or can't add...

If I buy:

RAM VDSTM Clutch System (RM-6130 Disk) - SFI Certified - No Hydraulics for $699

and ADD

RAM Sintered Iron Disk (900 Series) Upgrade for VDS Clutch System for $200

I come out with $899..

Add $250 for a McLeod adjustable master...

Total cost $1149 + shipping

Lets look at the McLeod setup:

McLeod Street Twin Dual-Disk Clutch, Steel Flywheel & new master cylinder - $1066 and I can get a deal on it..

Ugh..

$500 Spec S3
$1200 RAM 900 Series
$1000 or less McLeod Twin

*sigh*

My question is:Why did you build this BIG motor and use a crap clutch Sounds fishy

Either way,If it's true and you want the juice go for the twin disk setup.Get a new flywheel and have them match balance it for you to the original one

Honestly.. I blew my motor at the time.. being unemployed without a car (sob, sob, sob, etc ) after sitting for a YEAR, all I could afford at the time was the $300 Z06 clutch to get the car back on the road...

Now that I'm working again.. I can fix what I should have fixed the first time

Default Clutch Opinions with MY setup...

Yeah, I've searched, and browsed the forums.. but, here goes anyways...

My car is a H&C/built motor car putting down close to 480/460 with a stock Z06 clutch.. needless to say, it's just about useless... I can't shift with my foot on the floor because the clutch slips...

Anyways.. I'm looking at adding a 150-200 shot on top of that, and need something that will hold without fail.

I can't afford to do this more than once, as I'm sure many of you understand.

With all that being said, my car is a daily driver, however, most if it is highway driving. I'm not opposed to a firm peddle.

I'd prefer something with little, or no chatter, but, thats not very high up on my requirements list.

I must re-use my stock flywheel, as it is a balanced part of my motor.

What has been suggested to me was the McLeod Single disk with the adjustable master @ about $700 to my door.

Is this my best bet?
Is this a good price for that clutch?
Will that clutch meet my needs?

What else is suggested/recomended, please include approx. cost as well. the $700 is already tight on my budget right now.

Thanks in advance..

I am guessing your HP #s are flywheel? I have heard of the RAM 910 VDS system holding well on H/C 346's with a healthy shot of Juice. But it is more expensive and it would not be reccomended to use your stock flywheel. With 3.42s you can expect some chatter from this setup around town, can be almost eliminated with 4.10s from what I understand. Contact Mike @ rapid Motorsports for more info, he set mine up. Good luck

No, those numbers are rear wheel...

Whats the deal with the flywheel? is the RAM one thicker, or what?

I had asked the the engine builder zero balnace my flywheel, and then do the crank when it was at the machine shop for just this type of reason.. however, I'm still 'affraid' of changing the FW.. yes, yes, I know.. won't make THAT much of a difference.. but, I'd like to keep what I paid for

I'll call them in a bit...

TIA again..
