Default Grinding problems??

When Im shifting into 4th gear and both the weather and the car are cold, it grinds. Im not even shifting if fast, just normal driving. But when the car warms up, it doesnt seem to do it anymore. The weather has to be cold to do it, if the car is cold and its warm outside, it wont do it. Thanks and any help is much appreciated.

Just need to be really easy on the shifting until the car gets adequetly warmed up. I've found that after about 20 minutes of driving all is well. It's still not a pleasent feeling is it though.

This exact thing happens to me and I DO NOT shift hard, in any way. I shift granny style and it will still do it. After it is warmed up and I have been driving it awhile I'll occassionaly grind in 4th for no reason, I'm not power shifting or even racing, just cruising along in town. I have adjusted the clutch, no avail. Is it rebuild time?

Seems pretty common in these cars. I always have trouble getting into 2nd on a below 25 degree day. I work downtown so I don't usually get to 3rd or 4th due to rush hour and the car is garaged at home (and 50 degrees). I just baby it until warm...I have Mobile 1 tranny fluid, just haven't changed it yet, gotta do my rear axle as well. Where's summer when you need it?

I understand babying the tranny. I do that anwyway but even when babying the car I have to avoid shifting into 4th out of fear of grinding.

TTT
I really don't feel that this is an "inherent" problem on any t56 tranny that is mechanically sound. None of the T56s I have ever had would ever grind when cold or hot. I really feel I need to have the synchros and blocker rings replaced.

I switched to Mobil 1 synthetic ATF and have noticed much smoother shifts. I used to have an occassional grind at slow speed shifts from 2 - 3.

I think my is now due to a leaky/damaged slave. The engagement point of the clutch gets lower with high RPM shifts now and this is due to the older slave and 53+K miles on that 288 slave. I'll put a 145 slave in this week.
