T56 6th gear
ok guys I have tried a couple different pathway and have come up with nothing to my question. So I thought I would ask here as a final attempt
Recently I installed a 9" w/ 3.89 gears and needless to say with $4 gas prices I am going to tak a nice hit in the loss of gas mileage.
So my question is does anyone know where I could get a 6th gear so that the ratio will go from the stock gearing ratio of 0.50 in my f-body to something like 0.41-0.43. I have looked at some different gear calculator and in between these ratio I will then brings my rpm's down in a stock ran when cruising on the freeway.
I dont need 6th any time other than my freeway trips and I like how the car pulls now with the 3.89's in 1-5
Any help would be greatly appreciated. and yes I have asked Amber, and RSG to no avail.

I'm assuming you went from the stock 3.42s to the 3.89s. What speed do you normally drive on the highway? Since you're increasing your gearing/rpm by about 12%, drive about 12% slower than you were before. I know driving slower sucks, but if you go that route, you're gas mileage won't take nearly as much of a hit.

The only 6th gear options available are what G-Force sells or what comes stock .62 or .50. To my knowledge you will not find anything with that ratio unless you had it custom made. Then it would cost a fortune to make and I don't think anyone would for just 1 customer.
Good luck.

Sissy....j/k I've got 4.56's in my 9"
Like everyone said, .5 is the tallest 6th gear available for a t56. You could go to a 28" tall tire to eat up some of that 3.89 gear. I personally don't think your mileage will be that much worse coming from 3.42's.......are you just assuming it'll get worse or have you verified that it has?

I'm sorry but I'm lost here. Your driving a car that has a 9" and you complaining about going from a 3.42 gear to a 3.89 gear. If it was that big of a deal then why not just stay with the 3.42s or hell even put some 2.73s in there and really get the motor to chug going down the highway.
Sorry I'm not trying to be an ***, but going from a 3.42 to a 3.89 just doesn't seem like it would make that big of a difference, mabye a mpg or 2. Me on the other hand am trying to decide between 4.10s, 4.30s, or 4.56s and if I can pull mid 20s with the T56 crusing I'm cool with that, but if not then you just gotta pay to play.
With the auto and 3.73s best I ever got was 18 and I was babying it like hell, now driving like normal probably 12-15 depending on my right foot. But I was spinning 2500 @60ish

I have 4.11's in mine with 295/35/18 rear tires [26''], T56 rebuilt by SixSpeedInc [was T56Rebuilds when mine was done ] .
Anyway I feel the complete opposite as to what you want , on the highway cruising at 70mph in 6th [.50] the engine is turning right around 2,000rpm . To me it makes the car boggy feeling . I only have bolt ons currently so I might not compare to the mpg some of you get but last tank of fuel I averaged 19.10mpg 50/50 mix of city driving / highway . [ This was with some spirited 90-100mph cruising , some 1-4 gear wot runs etc . When I filled up I had a total of 249miles made and it took 12.98 gallons of 93 octane to make pump click that it was full .. $44.00 at $3.38 a gallon .
When I had the car tuned at G-Force Motorsports .. about a 200mile round trip , + 1 day driving to work and back and some messing around with the car to get a feel for the added power from the tune I had over 350miles made to a tank , that was with the car running rich , I fiigure that = around 20+mpg average . of 80% highway couple of wot throttle dyno pulls / few WOT runs 1-4 gears on the streets .
I am considering changing to the G force 5th 6th gear sets so I can go a higher top speed . Right now I pull 5th ot to my 6500rpm limiter and shift to 6th and pull another 1,000 rpm or so = 175-180mph . Car wont really pull much past that as the power /rpm / wind resistance is to great for any more acceleration . Im sure it would keep going but the straightaways aren't long enough to keep going .
If I could go back I would choose 4.30 to get a little more rpm so I could drive the legal 65-70mph speed limit . Right now I cruise 80-85 -90 mph to keep the passing power / oil pressure up . I couldn't stand the 3.42's from the factory, one of the first things I bought for the car was the Moser 9'' 4.11's .

thanks to taws6m6
and to the other guys I am not really bitching just trying to see if there was such a product out there that could give me the best of bothe worlds quicker acceleration in 1-4 decent cruising around town in fifth and then the great gas mileage of about 28mpg on the freeway.
Plain and simple when are you really going to "race" in 6th gear? an f-body isnt really the greatest aero car, so why are you trying to set top speeds in it.
And to be frank cruising is cruising I am not looking to have passing power. If you need to pass downshift.
anyways I guess no one out there has done this, but I am still going to look into it, as I think it might still be a good learning experience, and might even make me some money possibly.
