How do you make sure the stops are adjusted correctly
Shove the shifter into 3rd gear, crank the stop until it touches the shifter handle, back it off 1/2 turn and lock it down....same for 4th gear...

Why would the ripper not need them? Are you saying that other shifters do need them? I know they say that the transmission has stops in it, all transmissions have stops (or it would never shift into gear, it would just keep going). But, the amount of bent shift forks and such that I read about on this board makes me think that you really do need them. They take 30 seconds to install and 20 more seconds to adjust. You will not break those stops, they are stronger than you are. If they are adjusted as the book says (as I listed above), they don't change the normal operation, they don't weigh anything and there is no reason not to run them. I find it funny that B&M and many others took the time to machine their shifters for these "stops we don't need".
But anyway....these are just my thoughts.

what trackbird said is correct put shifter into tge gear just till it touches then back out the bolt a 1/2 turn then tighten lock nut.Be sure to hold the adjuster bolt in the same spot and do not let it move.I think it was for 2nd & 3rd gears though.In defense of 2000RATA the B&M insructions do say that the stoppers are not needed for our setups {i put the stops in my 98ss though} later
MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE SHIFT STOPS IN! Now that i have your attention. I own a 02' Z28 M6. I have 12,000 miles on it and have already had the tranny rebuilt completely by GM. The T-56 does have internal shift stops, but its not enough. I found out the hard way. I broke the 3-4 shift fork and trashed all of the syncros. If i would have installed the shift stops, it wouldnt have happened in the first place. Just a word to the wise, install them!

The internal stops are nothing more than some brass ball bearings sitting in an indent that can easily be forced out with not too much arm power. I have verified that with McCleod and first hand disassembly and witnessed the ***** wearing the indents smooth.
