I was just reading a thread where someone had a clutch or flywheel explode. If you've not ever seen what damage can be done to a car or your body go look.
Always ask whoever is trying to sell you a clutch and flywheel setup if it is SFI approved. It will have a small SFI sticker on it also. This is a must on a 6500+rpm engine.
If you can't get a blowproff bellhousing at least get sfi approved parts.

Joe, that may have been my post you were reading. My set-up unfortunately was not SFI approved. The flywheel is still intact but the clutch/pressure plate and bellhousing are no more. It actually took out some of my engine block where the bellhousing bolted to it. When it went it was pretty scary. I've never heard or felt anything like that in a car before. I am going to get it on a lift this week and remove the tranny and get some better pics. The next clutch set-up I get wil be SFI approved and Mcleod told me that their scattershield for the ls1 will be availble in about 3 months as well.
Blur, Mcleod twin disk is (according to them) SFI approved.

For a clutch to be SFI approved, the pressure ring must be tested for rotational strength, or better known as a burst test. Most factory style clutches nowadays have 'high burst' plates, but unless you submit your products for independent testing and have the results forwarded to SFI, they will not be 'SFI approved'. Just because it does not have a sticker does not mean it is not approved; all RAM LS1 parts are SFI approved for competition.
Note to you faster guys - if your car runs quicker than 11.99 in the quarter, NHRA safety rules REQUIRE an SFI approved assembly.
