Angry T56 problem after swap!

Hi,i've recently did an A4 to t56 swap & it went very well.
the problem is when i shift into reverse the shifter pops back out,i've even tried to hold it there but it pushes back out & when i shift from 1'st to second i hear a kshhhhh grind sound even at low & high speed.
could this be a clutch or synchros problem??
Any help appreciated.

probably a bent reverse fork and a reverse synchro replace. Don't keep driving it or you'll be replacing the reverse gear too, speak from experience.

Tailhousing removal-only rebuild. (You don't ~have to go through the whole thing. I would. But that's me.)

Oh and "you bent a fork" translates to "I am diagnosing your trans based upon reading things on the internet."

Get the trans. out, the offset shift lever removed & yank the tailhousing. You'll pretty quickly be able to see if you still have a good (unused / worn) side left on your reverse synchro and whether the reverse gear has the teeth ground down.

Soemthing to check real quick before you pull everything apart: is the trans going completely into reverse? Not sure what shifter you are using, but we have the McLeod slick-shift adapter in out app, and had to modify it heavily to allow the trans to go into all gears. Some of the aftermarket shifters also have adjustable stops. On our last go around, we thought we had some issues with reverse, but it turned out we still had to grind a little bit more on the offset bar to get into reverse.

Actually "you bent a fork" is speaking from experience from rebuilding my own trans and seeing several others with the same problem. Happens when people get reverse popping out and they hold it in gear or force it into gear from a worn synchro, but I'm not gonna get into a pissing match. After you take the tailhousing off you'll probably see witness marks on the reverse fork and visibile wear on the reverse synchro, not to mention worn/nicked teeth on the gear. Make sure they give you the old parts back so you can inspect that they really needed to be replaced.
