LT1 t56 to LS1 t56 with pictures
I just finished converting my old LT1 transmission to work with my LS1. As usual the differences were the bell housing, the clutch set up, input shaft, and front cover. The LT1/Borg Warner rear half is the same exact as the LS1/Tremec t56. The LS1 transmission which i bought complete was totally worn out. I had to use the rear half of my LT1 t56 mated with the front cover and input shaft to make a complete good working ls1 t56.
i snapped some pictures of the swap, as some may already know the ls1 input shaft is of a different length approximatly 1" longet than lt1.
On a side note i also swapped bearing outer races to keep the bearings true to the trans.

When you swaped the covers / front adapters & bearing races ,you should have set the end plays. This is a shimming operation behind the front bearing races. Preload will kill the bearings and too loose will cause a whole wealth of problems. You may have lucked out and got an acceptable result but these things are best NOT left to chance.

How much skill is involved in this swap? My skills are decent, but I've never gone into a tranny. I wanna keep costs down, but dont wanna turn my t-56 to junk either.

^^The T56 mounting point never changed between the two, an LT1 T56 mounts in the same spot as an LS1 T56, so the Cross Member will never change unless he gets a '98 and up F-body.
I'm putting a T56 behind my 402 LQ4 Stroker, and I'm using the LT1 T56 Crossmember without a problem.

Yes it can be done. That is what I did here. Ran it that way for a year or so. Rebuilt later on due to syncronizer wear. There was a shim under the input bearing race that was installed to give the correct preload when originally assembled. Just swapping blind is not the best option but it can be done. Is it right? No. The right way is to tear it all down and have the bearing race and input gear set up properly.

Clutch goin to floor
After changing the MC and it took forever to get the clutch to bleed. Thinking something was wrong with the new MC I bought cause it took so long to bleed I finally got her done and she shifts just right!!
