Default C5 Corvette T56 Converted to LS Fbody T56

A couple of people have pioneered this one before me, why I was able to complete it so I figured I'd add to the pile of info on this.

Converting a C5 Corvette T56 into a LS Fbody T56 is very easily done, if you can find the right parts. The GTO T56 Mainshaft is the hard one to find here, that is all that is needed to really make this happen. It all fits together excellent.

I started with both of these here.
Front is a 2001 C5 Corvette Coupe MN6 T56, back one is a 1993 LT1 Fbody M29 T56 that someone had swapped on a LS Front Plate to run in the setup they had, so I got lucky getting that there.

Tore both of them down for inspection and tossed out the wore out parts, which happened to be both Mainshafts, and the Fbody 5/6 Cluster Gear. C5 Internals were very low mileage.

I had to wait it out a few months, but I finally got a new GTO T56 Mainshaft.

Then I got it all together...

Finally assembled as a LS Fbody T56 with complete C5 Corvette Internals. Triple Cone 1/2 Carbon Fiber Synchros, Dual Cone 3/4, 5/6 Synchros, Steel 3/4 Fork.

Sorry to bring this post back from the dead but…. I’m converting my Z06 Vette trans to fit a LS swap I’m doing, I have all the parts I need expect a new Guide plate, detent ball and spring. Did you reshim and check for clearances after everything was all said and done? I am new to trans work and don’t want to do anything incorrectly but also don’t want to jump any further down the rabbit whole if not necessary lol.

Countershaft was shimmed to .003" lash, Mainshaft was shimmed to .000". I do all mine like that.

Solid post. I will be doing this once I get all my parts. Never messed with a trans but willing to learn.

Not too bad really, just make sure the input shaft and counter shaft have the correct preloads

This will be my first time rebuilding a transmission. I’ll have to figure out what the preloads are. Lol

Well life happened and now I can start doing this swap. Any advice before I start tearing it all apart.
