Default T-56.....Whats the difference.... LT1 and LS1

Will the T-56 out of an LT1 bolt up and work on an LS1?? What mods would have to be made?? Would it be worth trouble or get the right one? I have 2000 Z28 M6 that is in bad shape.

Honestly I do not remember. They eigher bolt right in, or there is a different input shaft required. Sorry I can not be more help.

Check out www.skulte.com they have a section for t-56 conversion on thirdgen f-bodies. Perhaps the issue might be addressed there as he discusses both versions of the t-56.

If i remember (60/40 odds) the bell housing has different mounts, the input shafts should be the same.

Different input shaft and a different front cover. LT1's have no place to mount the hydraulic throwout bearing.

I second the above & have both boxes. I don't reckon the earlier box can be used unless you want to do some extra work. The bell housings are different, the bolt pattern is different (no real problem though) plus LS1 hasn't got a slot for the fork. The early T56 hasn't got a mounting boss for the LS1 slave (you could change the front cover) plus the input shaft is a different length. It's basically easier to get the right box.
