Buying one, or converting to one? The larger viper input is helpful for ultimate power levels, but I honestly never saw an input twisted/broken.. FWIW, the newer C5/GTO input shafts are 98% of the diameter of a viper, but of course are setup for double-cone synchros.
The other benefits of the actual vipers are the limited run of 1piece counter/extension shaft, stronger gear synchro teeth, and of course the larger 30-spline output.
With the exception of the 30-spline output for hard launchers, I think the GTO or a C5 retro build is a better alternative..

i had my T56 built by Tick Performance, couldn't be happier with it. i got their "level 3 extreme viper T56" package back when they were running a sale. unfortunately i was "only" making 452rwhp before my car broke, so i haven't had a good chance to put it to the test, but the new motor will be closer to if not in excess of 600rwhp, so that should be a good test.

Call Amber and the guys at Six Speed Inc and get their package....I've had mine for a little over a year and no issues whatsoever.
I put down around 530rwhp n/a and dump it off the limiter @7200.
I also use a pst aluminum drive shaft with a 30 spline yoke..

The stock input shaft, just after the teeth tapers down slightly. On the viper input shaft, it doesnt taper down.. Ill see if i still have some pics but my hard drive crashed before i fully backed it up, and i may have lost them. Yes, they are 26 spline. I have the 30 spline output shaft too.

Although it's probably a good idea to upgrade to the viper 30T output, i've never heard too much about the F-body t56 input shaft breaking/snapping.

Do you think a .100" varience between all the shafts is going to make an actual difference in durability? I think if you have a LT or LS box and your doing the Viper output upgrade don't waste you money on upgrading the input to viper spec. Not for an extra .100" of material. Maybe for 2000+ HP applications, but not under that,you'd be wasting your money.

I have seen a few stock LS1 input shafts twist but never actually break . Usually the twist happens right past where the clutch disc rides on the shaft . A Viper shaft will be stronger over all but how much ???? Thats really hard to say with any degree of precision . As for the out put shaft , the Viper shaft is considerably stronger and a good upgrade especially in high powered heavy cars .

That 0.1" is a ~10% increase to the input shaft diameter, and as the diameter increases, strength increases exponentially ... for that section of the input shaft, the viper version will be substantially stronger than the F-body input shaft.

rough math gives the viper shaft 20% more cross sectional area, and since torsional load is mostly taken at the od of a shaft.. The shaft will be more than 20% stronger... could probabaly tell for sure, but dont feel like all the extra math..
