Help me identify this clutch.. spec?
I got this clutch from a guy local the other day for a good deal. Friends of mine know him and he seemed to be a real honest guy. Im not sure if he was mis-informed or if Im just paranoid but Im not sure if its a spec or not. The guy said it was a spec stage 3 but it doesnt say anything on it anymore.. I went ahead and posted the pics of mine and a pic I found of an actual spec 3. I am not sure why the paint has fallen off like this.. if this is a spec is this a common thing? He said it only had 1k miles on it.. it was in a recently swapped ls1 fc that went auto

Yea, I know the guy just got the car built and he trailored it everywhere.. it was only a high 11 second car. What it seems is that spec has changed the design maybe the earlier clutches arent powercoated like the new ones?

Yea thats pretty much what it was.. he said he made about 30 passes on it. I figured for 100 bucks I'd grab it then.. get a new disk later. How long do these specs last? It seems like a really good clutch I would hope for 400+ dollars it would last at least a couple seasons!

That is not a new unit...though it looks to be one of ours from some time ago. From the appearance the plate has been coated with hydraulic fluid which will ultimately break down the powdercoat. The dimpled rivets on the spring cage mean that this kit is at least a year old...but more likely two years old. The easiest way to tell what kind of wear is present is to measure the disc thickness. Use a caliper to pinch the total thickness of the disc (on the puck) and let me know what the measurement is. Thanks!
