Pro 5.0 Shifter
I just installed a Pro 5.0 in 98 Z. Shifting feels real smooth when parked and idling, yet when I drive, it kind of hesitates before fully engaging each gear. Is this normal for the first few hundred miles or does it have to break in or what.
Thanks
Ryan

Re: Pro 5.0 Shifter
My stop bolts are all the way out so they're not being used. It doesn't really need them to operate correctly does it?

MUSTANG HAT'R is right. Plus if you don't use those stops, you WILL own a syncro or two at a minimum. They aren't that hard to adjust and there is an article about it on www.projecttransam.com just browse through that site and you will find it. Good luck!

Re: Pro 5.0 Shifter
I really wish I knew more about my six speed tranny. When I installed my 5.0 shifter, I took the time to adjust the stop bolts and used a little thread lock to keep them still. Why not do it, it's not that taxing. I don't know if the tranny has built in safe-gaurds against over-throwing or not. But I noticed that the stock shifter didn't have any stops of any kind. I would bet if the shifter had the potential to break the tranny, gm would have done something about it. I'm sure they don't want to warranty a tranny because someone had a strong arm. Just my thoughts on stop bolts. As far as the problem at hand. I would look to the clutch. I bet if you post a new message asking what signs did you get before your clutch died. There would be alot of mention of what your experiencing right now. Just my thoughts.

Re: Pro 5.0 Shifter
RT98z I just installed a new 5.0 with the short stick and it also is slow going into gear while driving. However when the car is off its smooth. I was at the track last night and I couldn't get it into gear fast enough before my foot let off the clutch. My stocker with the short stick was way faster than a $200 aftermarket shifter. Do you have to really slam it into gear to get it to engage fast or what. I'm kinda disappointed after hearing so much about these shifters <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" />

Re: Pro 5.0 Shifter
There are internal stops in the tranny, but they are weak. From my personal experience the Pro 5.0 needs a month or two to break in and lose the notchy feel that initially causes it to not want to go into gears. It will smooth out.
